Which springs?

Featured Replies

Morning all :)

Well the daliance with an an Audi is over!!...After a year of nothing but problems and the longest time without a problem was a whole 5 weeks i have gone and bought a new Octy RS hatchback :) Am very happy with it so far but like most skodas it odes have its niggles...for me anyway!!...the drivers seat goes nowhere near as low as it should!!...but thats just something il get used to.... but what is going on with the ride height?!!...i thought my old fab RS was bad!!...That was sorted with a set of eibachs :) But what do folk recommend for the FL octy? taking into concideration that the IRISH version which i have comes with 17's and not 18's as standard.

Any views and comments will be greatly appreciated.

kit :)

Eibachs are popular for the Octy vrs (they were even a dealer fit option) - good quality spring and near OE ride but they only give you around a 20mm drop.

There are several cars with AP and Weitec coilovers. There is a lot of choice for the car - check out awesome, jkm and a few other suppliers - here's DPM's stuff: http://www.dpmperformance.co.uk/skoda-octavia-1z-06-c-1929_1947.html

Mine is currently -36mm on weitecs which looks perfect in my eyes B)

The guy who has looked after my other cars suggests H&R 35mm springs....They do a 50mm spring but he reckonds that might be a bit too low and harsh with the standard dampers. Just worried they wont lower enough and still look kack!! Any idea why they sit so high as standard?

K:)

A 50mm drop will see you hitting every speed bump - not a good idea.

I ran mine for a short time at -45mm which looked great but was not practical. I'm now at -36mm and its perfect at that height, no speed bump issues and it looks great.

Personally i'd look to change to shock to something designed to work with the new springs. I expect the OE dampers won't work very well with a 35mm drop.

.. or just go for some coilovers so you can adjust the height as you want. The approved range the Weitecs I have will go from is OE height down to -40mm.

Any excuse to post a pic.. :p

mmm now that does look good :) But how much were they? Too much for me i bet!!...H&R seem to work very well with oem dampers from what i see on tinterweb forums....ive never had a prob using aftermarket springs eibach/h&r on oem dampers that ive had on any skoda/audi ive had...but i suppose theres always a first for something to go wrong!!

I went for PI Springs, took some flak for it as they are not an 'approved' manufacturer, but 2 years later they are still as good as new, they dropped mine 30mm. I would like to have gone lower but as Rob states you will have clearance issues. Also I feel the Octavia is over sprung and under dampered, when time and funds permit I will probably add a set of FSD's.

This was taken approximately 3 hours after the springs were fitted (time enough for a bit of TLC before the camera came out! :giggle: ) they have settled nicely now, probably a further 10mm. B)

They look good :) Are those 18's? Mine are 17's. Just as long as the H&R go somewhere to stopping it looking stupid il be happy :) Anyone know why they have set the ride height so high? Isnt the platform based on the Mk5 golf?

K:)

i just went for the Eibach springs not fitted them yet 20mm fine for me i need it to be practical plus the roads round here are...lets say not the best :giggle:

Yes mate 18's, tbh it didn't look bad when I brought her, but when I came to change the tyres for the first time I realised they were the wrong profile, 45 instaed of 40, so after fitting the correct size it looked like a Scout... :o

I don't think the ride height is any higher than the Golf (but don't quote me on that), I think it's more likely the arches are closer to the wheels! ;)

No spacers now either, as new wheels are 8J instead of 7.5J

Mine are on Eibachs with 15mm spacers at the rear
