£87.22 for Lower Boost Pipe!

Featured Replies

Just got an email in from Skoda, £87.22 inc VAT for a Lower Boost Pipe and thats with my "discount"!

Basically suffering from the common lower boost pipe problem, I done a few searches and I've read about people using self tappers, jubilee clips and even replacing the boost pipe with non-oem piping. Is there any other methods people have had success with, I dont fancy using self tappers if im honest but same time I dont want to fork out that ammount of money for a poorly designed item. At the moment its wrapped in copious ammounts of duct tape but I was going too jubilee clip it tonight unless I get any bright ideas. I'm thinking sikaflexing it might help aswell.

Suggestions please

Can you not get some silicone hose, and buy the seperate push fit oem type connectors from Forge ?

Im in need of a more immediate fix, I plan on upgrading to a FMIC so its something to get me from now till then but remains reliable

Just buy the fmic now then !

Haha if only I had the funds

Well you'd be aswell just going for it, if you're not willing to do a proper fix on the leaky pipe.

Might cause further issues down the line.

Self tappers are the best option

Some big mahoosive ones!!

Will not come off again!

Trust me ive faffed around with loads of boost pipes! At one point i was growing boost pipes out my ears

If money wasn't an issue I would have bought the pipe from skoda, I can't justify spending £500+ on a FMIC set up because of one pipe. I'm more than willing to fix it but just replacing it isn't an option for me at the moment I need to try something else that will maintain driveability but not cost me £87 to achieve it.

I take it i'll need to silicone the heads of the self tappers too prevent any leaks from occuring?

I didnt and ran 173bhp so no loss of boost

Silicone will help however :)

4 of them at 90 degree spacing around the collar to the intercooler will do fine!

Use big big self tappers though :) bigger the better

Seemed to have sorted the boost pipe problem, followed this guide - http://briskoda.net/forums/topic/174479-how-to-secure-boost-pipe-connection/ and done the lower connections and the upper connections just to be sure. I also forced the lumps on the coupling further apart with a screwdriver as they seem to have been forced down, probably form having the hose removed a few times. By doing this and cable tying the pipes together as described in the guide the boost leak seems to be sorted, car feels much stronger under load and definate reduction in noise, cans till hear the turbo spooling up but the whistling noise of the boost leak has gone. Definately worth a shot if you think you think you might have a leak. Thanks to the guys for the advice aswell

I plan on using self tappers when i've a bit more time and can get the bumper off to get into the intercooler
