Any ideas on how to get my door seal to stick?

Featured Replies

Ok, to cut a long story short, my Fabia had to have a new drivers side rear quarter fitted because of an accident in the Snow.

Since getting it back the outer seal/strip that runs along the top of the front & rear door has failed/separated from the metal work. Its been back to the garage & a brand new seal has been fitted each time & within 24 hours it has separated again. The last time was especially bad & the entire seal has come away from the metal work & was just hanging in the doorway. The repair centre has assured me that the paint work was greased & cleaner thoroughly before the seal was applied.

Has anyone had this experience? Is it the sticky tape on the seal that’s just crap & is there a way or getting the bugger to stick!!!

Cheers.

i had this problem, had to just start again with a new seal!

Already had 3 seals & all have gone within 24 hours.

I thought of using some 3M 9087 Double Sided tape as an interface but i'm unsure if the 3M tape is stronger.

how long did u leave it to set for? i garaged mine overnite and made sure the surface was properly clean before sticking it back on. its been fine ever since

I havent been fitting it, the repair garage has.

They've assured me that the paint surface was clean/degreased/dry.

I've been wondering if its because they fit the seal & then shut the door which puts pressure on the seal & breaks the adhesive bond.

thats what they are probably doing mate, its a real easy job to do mate just takes some time cleaning the paintwork off to re-seal
