replacing rear wheel bearing

Featured Replies

well i believe my lupo uses the same sort of rear hub / bearing as a fabia... rear discs are 232mm like a vrs (i believe)

now as clublupo is garbage i need some help of some briskodians...

basically after a full run down on how to replace it...

cheers

Well now...Fabia rear hub/bearing unit replacement...done this one!! simples!!!

Get car on axle stands, remove wheel, remove brake caliper support bracket (remove the bracket from the beam axle so you don't have to remove caliper from the bracket, you know it when you see it!)... remove disc...remove the centre dust cap with a flat blade screwdriver (carefull)...remove the 12 locking centre nut (high torque, so get long extension bar and penetration spray)...use a puller to remove the hub/bearing unit from stub axle (I didn't..just used a couple of block of wood behind it and hit them to get it off! clean the stub axle and use the clear/yellow type high temp bearing grease to lube the stub axle to bearing mating surfaces..also work some into the gap betwen the two two bearing sets in the hub unit..don't pack it to much tho'...then squarely push on (using hand) the new unit...clean with meths the threads for the lock nut (and on stub axle) fit NEW OEM nut (70Nm 52lbf ft + 30deg turn(12th of a turn..mark line from one point then turn nut until next point touches)refit dust cap...refit disc..refit caliper etc.. guidepin bolts 35Nm 26lbf ft...brake mounting bracket to axle bolts 30Nm 22lbf ft + 30deg turn.. use a bit of Blue Loctite (med strength) on these last bolts. spot on cheers.

clears up a few things i had on my mind...

i have bought a hub puller as i've been driving on a dead bearing now for 2-3k and i heard they were harder to remove...

cheers

Puller will make it easier...right tools for the job etc.!!!! Ooohh if the stub axle is marked and won't polish up with meths(to remove old grease before applying new grease)use the penetrating oil and some 2000grit or 4000grit wet and dry and go gentle on the pressure that you use (then wipe again with meths to remove oil etc before applying new grease)!!! Did this on my brake pistons and they came up SHINY AND SMOOTH!!!! B)

whats the stub axle?

where the hub mounts to?

will it likely be scored?

never changed a hub / bearing before, but i've done other hands on things, replaced whole suspension on it

Stub (short) axle that the hub rotates on which is fixed to the rear beam axle (trailing arm type) that's where/what it is.....and it might be marked if you've been running around with a "dead" bearing for that long...won't know until you get it off which s why I added the above!! B)

lets hope its not too fubard :o

nowt a bit of wet and dry wont fix B)
