I think it'll be more than 10k over a Yeti for the top spec one.

The options list will probably be quite impressive too.

Starting price for the Q3 is c.£25,000 (according to AutoExpress) which is the price (before extras) of the top Yeti.

I bet you'll be able to spend close to £40,000 on a top spec Q3 by the time you have added xenon headlights, sunroof and SatNav. :o

I had a look at an A6 recently and it doesn't look quite as 'A4' as I thought it would. It does pass more than a .er....passing resemblance however :D This family look thing is everywhere these days : Aston Martin are probably the worst for it. Shame on them for diluting a beautiful car

Amanda: I saw the new A6 at the Geneva show and as much as I hated the thing when I saw it launched in the press (as looking too much like the dumpy A8) in the metal it has a hell of a lot of presence and I had to admit it was gorgeous - especially inside. As was the new A3 sedan concept (albeit with the never to see production RS4 fender haunches and huge wheels).

This Q3 will cost far, far more than a Yeti. £25,000 for the very base model (which should have plenty of standard kit) but nothing approaching the kit in my Elegance Yeti which cost me a few thousand pounds more than that base Q3... £40,000 is a more likely Q3 price for a like-for-like spec (apart from engines of course) hence my earlier comment: who will buy a lower spec Q5 now if you can get a full fat Q3 which looks exactly the same!? Porsche knows this conundrum very well and have always been very careful in how they spec the less expensive Boxster vs the 911. They have also always said they don't want a baby Cayenne for this very reason - it will canabalise sales from the Cayenne. And then they go and say they will launch the Cajun (an Audi Q5 based baby Porsche SUV) - albeit reportedly only in three door guise to not steal too many family friendly Cayenne sales.

Time will tell what this Q3 will do to the Q5 but in my book in combined Q3 and Q5 sales they won't be selling as many more as they'd have hoped.

The Q3 wont just be a re-skinned Yeti. Audi usually use lighter components in various places (Aluminium Bonnet and tailgate) as well as (in my opinion) nicer and better quality interiors. Plus I expect there will be a few high tech gadgets (sorry.....options) available for those that want them. I personally am waiting for the seep fat fryer option :) I agree the engines and the transmission will be almost identical, but there is more to the car than just being a clone. I guess it comes down to what you want and what you think is a fair price for a cars like these. (here we go again )

I do love the A7 though, it is gorgeous, even if it looks similar to the A5 Sportback :D

A good existing example is the BMW X5/X3 the X3 was almost the same size as an X5, but a few ££££ cheaper.....

I have no idea what the sales figures were like for either prior/after the into of the X3....I believe the new X3 is more expensive than the old model, but I haven't researched it, and don't plan to.......

PS I know of one X3 owner who had to downsize to an X1 because they couldn't afford the extra for the new X3......Badge snobs.....didn't even know about the Yeti which is bigger - they really struggle with loads emoticon-0140-rofl.gif

New X3 is a tad cheaper and lighter with a slightly better spec. I quite like the sound of the 3.0tdi. 0-60 in 6.2 and over 40mpg :)

The side profile of the Q3 suggest it won't be as comodious inside, especially in the luggage compartment.

However, I don't find it unattractive, it might be more interesting if they actually went with the Cross Cabriolet Concept.

Looking on Parkers, it becomes aparent that there is another competitor out this week, the Ssangyong Korando, the new edition of the horrendous old Jeep like thing produced end of last century.

Surprisingly though, I find that look a little like the Q3 and also the last generation Toyota Corolla.

Not in anyway, shape or form is this a competitor for the Yeti, dont know why it's even being discussed.

Just another cause of traffic jams near schools.....

The trouble with Audi's [ well built quality vehicle ] is that they are getting too common , you do not see many Yeti on the road.

Looks like it's aimed at a different niche market. Those preferring style over practicality. My personal preference is for the Yeti's 'Tonka' shape with its excellent 180mm ride height. The Q3 has a stylish interior but as previously commented looks like a pumped up road hatchback.

" think of the Q3 as the sister model of the VW Tiguan. But unlike the Tiguan, off-road capability was not on the list of Audi’s engineering targets for the Q3. Sportiness was, though"
