Didnt look at the prices! Ouch.

They come across from the far east in kit form and are assembled here.

Having had a poke around the MG line up at the MPH show late last year, I have to say...

:rofl::D

There is no way on god's own earth that anyone would seriously pay those prices for something that is so horrifically built.

The one door didn't shut properly and the poor sod on the stand was desperately trying to get it to shut. The panel gaps around the rear tailgate where big enough to fit a finger between. If that wasn't bad enough, panel fit wasn't consistent.

I was reminded of the the review on Top Gear a few years ago of the 1st gen Merc ML which had gaping panel gaps round the rear as well....

Manufacturer's should make sure a show car is the best example, especially when you're trying to bring back a brand which has (some less than glorious)history in the build quality department.......

Just looking round the pictures on the website, and it looks decidely budget.

Hope the safety has improved on previous Chinese models

That was what I was thinking too.

Who sat next to the Mondeo design team at design college then?

looks like a gen-2 proton

I think the pricing it pretty good considering the spec level and the fact it's the full OTR price.

Second hand they'll be as desirable as used condoms. Catastrophic depreciation is probably an understatement.

They're being sold through what would normally be used car dealers by the looks of it. That doesn't mean much by itself but they're not likely to have the equipment or backup of a big group like VAG or Ford (admittedly that backup is normally used to duck problems).

I'm just waiting for tales of seats impregnated with toxic fire retardants a la Argos, rats in the doors, child labour etc etc, before the marque withdraws from the uk in 3 years leaving people with £18k paperweights.

The car looks a lot better in the flesh than you may gather from pics although the rear end is a little odd.

My, haven't we all become car snobs suddenly !!...give them a chance...!!

In terms of MPG and CO2 output, still seems way behind compared to VAG and BMW.

Anyone else see it as little odd they've put a 5 speed instead of a 6 speed in there? :wonder:

It's given some hard working British people a job though in these hard times, so fair play to them

Hard to make a judgement till we've driven the car and had a poke round it. If it comes from Ssangyong's parts bin, it will be a disaster. Budget cars from the far east seem to date very quickly and if I remember correctly the last baby Rover thing was of a Sino/UK design co-op.

The Rover City Rover was just a rebadged Tata Indica:

That would be Indian rather than Chinese though ;)

They look very nice in the flesh, but all the reviews I've seen say that the interior quality and driving dynamics are dated.

I don't like it. It looks hideous. It reminds me of an old Austin Princess. I feel sick.

Car snobbery from Skoda drivers.......

I'll be having a look at one for sure. I miss my old ZT :S

This reminds you of a Harris Mann wedge; Should have gone to Specsavers! ;)

This is a 550, which is a similar car from SAIC.

Looks very smart, and very Japanese/American.

The kind of car Rover should have produced!

But whose parts bin's been raided this time?

It *is* the kind of car Rover made: badly built, not up to the competition.

Looks like a Proton. I've had the misfortune to see them around Longbridge.

No parts bins have really bean raided.. Maybe for a bit of switch gear.

It's a 75/ZT underneath.. Jut shortened.
