yeti fault ..fuel pump

Featured Replies

i have owned a 10 plate yeti for two months and so far its been in the garage three times ,1)noise in dash which sounds like a leaf trapped in the vents ..but reading through this forum its obviously something more sinister,2)badge on rear corroded and subsequently replaced,3)buzzing noise in engine area which can be heard with window down..the garage reckon this is the fuel pump and it a fault on all yetis and cant be rectified ...is this true or are they talking rubbish and last but not least a rattle within in the boot door.

Don`t get me wrong i really enjoy the car ,the practicality ,the ride height and mpgs are great ,i have even spent more money on purchasing a yeti roof rack .i just wish these faults would get resolved .

Has anyone else had a fault on the buzzing fuel pump??????

Petrol or diesel engine?

Diesel

Hhhhhmmmmmmm. On the subject of fuel pumps. I've just been looking at the latest "What Car" used car price guide and Yeti is now listed for the first time. In the "reliability" section it says of hearing of "reports of faulty diesel pumps". Anyone else seen it or had issues with fuel pumps, or are they isolated incidents? Surely if it is a problem, it can be rectified.

12k miles on the clock and none of the issues you mention on my car (touches head). :)

18k plus and no problems!

21k - nae problems Jimmy

24K and no probs either :D

Never heard of fuel pump failure on a common rail engine before as long as it has been fed with diesel. On diesel cars that have been filled with petrol, pump failure could happen any time.

Never heard that all Yeti cars with diesel engines were faulty either  If the sound the engine makes is the same as all other comparable engines, I would call it a characteristic or a feature instead of a fault.

My diesel Yeti has covered around 25K km's without any problems with any of the diesel pumps.

Thanks

I still would not worry, I haven't seen one high pressure pump failure yet, and we have sold "a few" :)

Thankyou all for your response

  • 1 year later...

I have just purchased a 12 plate Yeti S (2.0 TDI CR 110PS DP) from my local Skoda dealer. This was a demonstrator and had done 5500 miles. The couple of test runs that I did were fine. I now find that, when my Yeti has really warmed up, there is a loud "buzz" from the fuel pump. You can actually feel the vibrations through the fuel pipe. At first it was thought to be a faulty fuel pump, but a new pump was just as noisy. A "silent" fuel pump from another Yeti is "noisy" when fitted to my car, so it is not the fuel pump. Any ideas would be much appreciated. Thanks.

My Yeti has 57k on it and no fuel pump issue/noise, the Audi A4 CR I had before did 135k in three years also with no issue.

I do know the pump runs very fine tolerances and is only lubricated by the diesel, so maybe try some Ultimate or Shell super diesel as this has improved lubricity. Might help if not the pump is under warranty for three years so just keep driving it until it fails and SUK will fit a new one.

Now 52k and no problems.

Re the noisy pump: get the garage to check hat all the fuel hoses are correctly clipped in place.

This is my first diesel car and I just filled it up once at Tescos.

I have since read somewhere that this could contain up to 7% bio-diesel !!!!!!

Could this be the problem ?

I have also read that some diesel owners add 200ml of 2 stroke oil per tank full, to make up for the additives that the likes of Tesco do not use.

Is this sensible or should I just be more selective as to which diesel I should use?

All diesel sold from pumps in the UK contains up to 7% bio, so that won't be a problem.

No-one has yet proved that adding 2 stroke improves anything, but a few have proved that adding cheap 2 stroke causes more soot and therefore may accellerate problems with the DPF.

Personally i will not buy fuel from any supermarket, especially when the BP and Texaco just down the road are the same price.

And Tesco's is the spawn of the Devil!!

Problem solved.

The pump in the tank was causing all the problems. Replacing this stopped the buzzing and the vibrations.

I did not know that the Yeti had 2 fuel pumps.

I am now worried that someone may have filled my Yeti with petrol. What other problems should I watch out for, if this is the case?

Thank goodness for warranties.

I have noticed the fuel pump ticking quite a bit on first turning on the ignition but today the ticking continued for all of a three mile journey.

After a one hour stop it did not re occur on the return trip - any ideas ????

Regards

Mike

is it dependant on how full the tank is?
