Lift off whistling

Featured Replies

Pretty sure the whistling noise when stationary is EGR valve related. Could be the same issue on lift-off too.

Can't see an attached video?

Sorry, thought i'd be clever and do it via the phone but it seems to not work, doh.. uploading it from laptop as we speak 2 mins..

My egr valve is disconnected, or do you mean its just leaking air?

Has EGR operation been mapped out by the recent remap?

I've seen/heard the whistling occur as the EGR adjusts. So when you say 'disconnected' how has it actually been done?

I didnt get it mapped out as I wanted the choice of having it working (or not) with the remap.

Block up the vacuum pipe at the top of the EGR, both sides so that nothing gets in or out. I assume it doesn't work since the cel light is on :)

Have you modified EGR operation in VCDS as well?

I seriously would have taken the opportunity to get it mapped out. Why you'd want the option of having it working I'm not sure. Never really found a positive reason to have EGR in operation TBH....

But if the everything else apart from the vaccum pipe is still plumbed in, connected and operational, it could be that the EGR flap is still moving. Hence the whistling.

That's my take on it anyway.

I haven't disabled it in the VCDS no, i've read on here once done the vacuum hose block it is not needed..? I'm not sure. But I am sure it is disconnected and the cel light is on.

Reason I want the option is environmentally friendly reasons haha, I've yet to had a chance to really read about the EGR, if it is honestly a bad device which ruins the car in exchange for little environmentally beneficial purpose, it wouldn't be this popular with many manufacturers (including industrial vehicles, not just cars).

So the flap is still moving, interesting, could this be moving even the EGR is disconnected? or maybe when i disconnected it, it was on a half on half off mode thus making it flap?

you decatted? mine does a very similar but louder whistle coming down the revs, i know mines all exhaust though :giggle:
