getting a new vrs chipped

Featured Replies

I am confused????

stage 1 on the 2.0 TSI will add around 50hp and 80lbft of torquemand thats just the peak values, there are huge gains across the entire rev range.

From http://briskoda.net/forums/topic/198321-20tfsi-remap/

@ jonnovRS a good stage 1 remap will not see more than 235-240hp unless there is an intake, HPFP or fitted plain and simple unless you use awesome-GTIs, AMDtechniks or superchips rolling roads as they give away free Hp in doggybags.

When you say chip it I assume you mean remap it? I think most of todays maps are not detectable via any dealers anyway so probably wouldnt be able to tell its been done. unless they drive it of coarse. Also lots of places offer a switchable system so you can put it back to standard anyway. :giggle:

A dealer could tell if a car was mapped almost instantly I'm afraid

i shall explain

The key is in the title of the thread that you have linked. It asks for a remap on the 2.0TFSI which will not hit more than 235-240hp with a stage 1 map.

The OP of this thread has ordered he vRS with the new 2.0TSI engine which is more tunable and with a stage 1 remap will hit 255hp.

keep digging, you'll catch me out in a minute :D

I'm fairly certain that all vRS engines come with an encrypted ECU that can't be flashed via the diagnostics port which means that you can't use a Shark STS or Revo SPS. The only option is to take your car to a remapper who will physically open your ECU and bench flash it. This will leave tell tale markings on the ECU casing. Even with ECUs that can be flashed by the diagnostics port from what I've heard a determined dealer can find out that you have previously had a remap (although most won't bother).

I'm yet to see an Octavia VRS Petrol with an encrypted ECU. The diesel VRS has been encrypted since around MY2010 which coincided with the facelift model.

A dealer could tell if a car was mapped almost instantly I'm afraid

Could a dealer tell if an ECU had been unlocked to allow it to be mapped but was running a standard map? :)

is that even possible to crack it without changing the map?

Would anyone know if my 2009 vrs will be remappable without having to remove the Ecu. It's a sort of hybrid with pre front end but the facelift dash and tsi engine. Was registered in April 2009.

On the thread I linked to, I stated that a good stage 1 remap on a tsi should give more than 240bhp but you contradicted me. When I made my comment on that thread I wasn't sure whether the OP was actual referring to the TFSI or TSI, despite the title of the thread, as they can be confused, hence why I specifically said TSI. I am well aware of the remap potential of both TSI and TFSI engines thanks.

i was answering the thread title in both threads, so this one i answered for TSI as he is ordering an new vRS, the thread you linked if you looked at his sig/profile it says 2006 vRS so it was always going to be TFSI just as the thread title suggested hence i added the correct response for that.

You just happened to jump down my throat because i corrected you. Granted you did say TSI,but i presumed a typo, my mistake there. We'll leave it at that, or it'll take the thread off topic

Well my point is that if the ECU has been unlocked for the purposes of loading a map and you used Bluefin or the STS to change back to the OEM map would there still be fingerprints in the ECU?

Yes I understand that on Revo you only change the values to match the OEM map. :)

M map. :)

I think once REVO bench flash the ECU, that they can then update and reload their new maps via the OBDII port. Seem to remember a revo guy saying there was no ned to remove the ECU again after the initial map.

NOt sure if the other tuners can do it the same, i presumed that they would have to remove the ECU each time they need to flash it.

Wouldbe good if you could get someone to crack the code in order to use an STS or other handset to allow the switchable map

Encrypted ECU has started to appear at start of 2010 so you should be good.

I doubt this. Ecu needs to be bench flashed so they can be rebooted and taken over by the laptop connection before it boots, so sort of hijacking the Ecu before it loads the original flash and overwright it.

You can't do this through OBDII unless REVO has the decryption key, which they don't.

On MED17 and EDC17 (read: TSI and CR engines) no - once they are modified the full file checksum changes irreversibly, even if the car is running a standard map.

I would expect so yes. If it's Petrol then definitely OK, if it's diesel then it's questionable but I would expect that it's OK.

Does that mean once unlocked though your STS can be used at will? :)

And what about the flash counter? ;)

Thanks for this fella and also cheers shark90 and it is indeed a petrol tsi. Just wish I had £500 burning a hole at this time as cars pretty much there except a downpipe which will come first then straight to stage 2 :)

No, there is no such thing as "unlocking" an ECU. STS/Bluefin/other OBD flash devices cannot be used full stop.

Well stage 2 is only a £100 upgrade so it won't break the bank when you get that far

Is that a definate Ben as when i spoke to Bluefin they said once the ECU has been unlocked then it **should** be fine to do through the OBDII?

So bench flash only, no chance to turn the map off on a TSI?

that what REVO said to me. Once they have bench flashed it, there is no need for them to remove the ECU for stage 2/2+ and updates as they can then use the OBDII port

As far as we're concerned yes. Perhaps shouldn't have included Bluefin in my reply.

If we're talking about the 2.0TSI then I'm yet to come across one that's protected in a Skoda at least.

However, it doesn't matter who you go to - once a MED17 or EDC17 ECU is modified it changes the full file checksum. This is true whether it is back to stock programming or not.

So yes, you can turn the map off. But you've already passed the point of no return.

stage 1 can go on a completely stock car with no issues. stage 2 requires a performance downpipe

thanks janner , wont be doing that YET lol
