EGR Blanking question

Featured Replies

Hi,

before anybody tells me off for not doing a search on this query, I have but can't find a definitive answer. A while ago, I managed to find a very good illustrated guide on how to blank the EGR pipe, but haven't been able to find it again.

A few days ago, I cut the rubber vacuum hose leading into the top of my VRS EGR and blocked both the end leading into the EGR and the pipe leading way from the EGR towards the hose junction at the back left of the engine bay. Since then, the car has seemed much more responsive and the economy appears to have gotten slightly better. On the downside, this mod has lit up the cel on my dash.

Two questions. Firstly, has this effectively modded my car in such a way as to prevent the EGR opening? Secondly, I am considering fitting a blanking plate into the system instead of/or as well as, but cannot find whether the best place to do this is at the flange at the manifold end of the pipe leading to the EGR or at the flangein the pipe just below the EGR, or does it make no difference?

If I was to do this, and then fix the vacuum hose into the EGR, would the cel disappear or would I be able to have this mapped out alternatively?

Thanks,

Mark

you only need to plug the rubber hose when its disconnected from the egr to stop it functioning...you will need the eml mapped out.
