Passed the 5K mark....

Featured Replies

Morning All

Quick update as I know we all love talking about our motors......

Passed the 5000 mile marker yesterday, and still loving the car.

As I passed the 5k though, my oil light came on, so pulled over, checked the level to find it just below the dotted marker on the stick, had some oil in the boot so topped it up. Yes, that is the first "top up" she has needed.

1 annoying rattle in the boot, but only when i leave the estate cover in the open position, not there when i close it.

Still get a little wind noise from the passenger side when on motorway, doesn't really bother me, so will report it at first service.

The Bolero white screened on me twice, but has never done it since, again, will report at service time.

Nothing else to report really, generally, most of my mileage is around town, so getting around the 30-32mpg mark, with A few Motorway runs, I am convinced I would see 38-40 with respectable driving, and I have a few heathrow runs coming up in the next couple of months, so will be a good tester. (nice run from Wales)

Still prefer the estate shape to the hatch, so happy i went for that, and the colour is fantastic, and looks so much nicer than "van white" :giggle:

And, come October, it will be my 10th anniversary of owning a vRS......

ps - My wife has now covered about the same milage in her 1.2 TSI Fabia (105bhp) and that is also a fantastic little motor

Hi mate,

Re- The oil light coming on.

Does the light coming on mean its just in need of a top up or is it like the old days where you stop immediately as the engine is dry?

:o No, it just means top up, normally. Generally when it drops below 'minimum' on the dipstick. Always a good idea to check & top up before the light comes on if possible though.

I Generally do less than a 1000 a month, so I tend to only check the levels once a month, last time I checked it was on the lower part of the dotted marker, and this time it was just off.

I was on a dual carriageway that had loads of pull in's, and of course always have a top up bottle in the boot, so that was the only reason for stopping more or less straight away.

The dipstick in my Octaia is a right pain. Its difficult to see where the oil level actually is, even in sunlight.

I agree. Usually the dipstick gets smudged too easily and the reading is unreliable as oil trickles everywhere and is hard to read..

Maybe its just my unsteady hands.

If it goes yellow it's just a warning, if it's red, stop asap. (apparently)

Doesn't it mean (as it always has) low oil pressure? It certainly has never (generally) meant the engine is "dry". Stopping and topping up would be a good idea but certainly on the cars I had many years ago it didn't mean seizure was imminent.
