Octavia 4x4 estate tuning/upgrades

Featured Replies

As usual with all my cars, I already have a lot of ideas/plans for my car after only owning it for 5 days lol

I have already remapped it(WOW!)and realised the OE brakes are shocking! and no good for my driving style(no i'm not a wreckless t*@t) so looking for advice on best brands to go for for discs and pads with original calipers, may look into conversions later but can't spend a great deal of money.

Also what suspension do other people use and(more importantly)what suspension will fit the 4x4 estate?

I think I also need a new DV as the car seems to go on boost then drop off slightly then on again(only slighty, and can hear a difference in the boost when it does it) is this a DV problem or something else completely? read somewhere that the OE DV can't handle the remapped boost and so needs changing for an aftermarket one or one from a TT, is this true?

I have heard loads of conflicting stories about what to do with the air intake too, are cold air feed induction kits worth it or is a panel filter just as good? and which brands are best for the 1.8t?

I would like to get a FMIC at some point too, will the OE one be sufficient to use as a FM or would it be more trouble than it's worth?

And then there's the exhaust to do too, any suggestions? I want something that will turn heads when I want it too but not be too loud all the time (not like the Mrs Ibiza GTi  drives me barmy when it drones while cruising)

Thanks in advance for any help

When looking for suspension, you need to be looking for Golf R32 stuff

DV wise, forge is the 'orignal' product, which has been copied for less by CompBrake and several others.

IMO the CompBrake is the best value for money at the moment.

There are several SMICs' out there that compete with the FMICs' . 'The' name in the fmic world is the forge double-pass, which isn't cheap, and tbh only really needed for supporting big turbo's.

Exhaust wise, not that much off-the shelf tbh

The oe 4x4 exhaust is slightly better than the vrs one, mainly in that it has a double cat (less restrictive)

Hello and welcome to the forum.

Nice choice of car BTW. I had one and it was awsome in the wet/snow. Never had any issues with handling either.

As snow muncher says. Look for R32 stuff. Anti roll bar etc. You can buy coilover setup for the estate and that would be my personal choice as its so critical. Or some very good condition used parts. Anti lift kit and anti roll bars were also critical to achieve the best set up. All this helps to compenstate for the fact it is an estate. Being an estate doesnt mean you wont get great handling and be able to throw it around with confidence. Just take your time to learn the limits as when it does go theres a lot of extra weight/length to correct.

I had a couple of different CAI on my car and I eneded up going back to a standard box. After doing some data logging as well as real life driving I found the standard box was the best option believe it or not. I smoothed the inside of the box for maximum airflow efficiency but basically on my set up (running a big turbo conversion) I found little or no difference compared to much more expensive alternative options.

I had the forge DV and would recommend that.

Snow muncher will be up to date on what is out there right now for the best set up. I'm sure he will give you some gems of advice/suggestions B)

almost sounds like surging, common issue with these cars.

Heard of the surging, is this caused by the DV?

Also would this be a half decent upgrade? AmD DV(007P)

Where do people get all their tuning stuff from? I tend to use ebay alot but there must be other places like deamon tweeks?

Where can i find stuff from the R32? On a budget so VW might be too expensive

EDIT: just found this R32 Exhaust Is this likely to fit? even if it needs a slight modification( as in length) We have a Custom exhaust fabricator in town that could do the work to fit it

Edited by 4x4 1.8t Octy

The DV looks fine

The R32 exhaust is a no-go I'm afraid, completely different design

Its just possible an uprated exhaust for the S3/A3 1.8T Quattro might just be a viable option - I'd guess it'd be a bit short on the rear though

As for where to buy stuff, anywhere and everywhere basically. Don't buy anything without doing a good google search on it !

Keep a close eye on forum for-sale forums too.

Some of the site sponsors will also give discounts for forum members, so often phoning to ask for 'best price' is worth it

Keep an eye out for forum group buys too

If you get into high-end tuning buying direct from the states can save many 100s of pounds

surging can be down to a number of reasons.

i used to have it but then I went to a local remapper and had a new map put on. no more surging and the car was quicker. my original map was calling too much boost and it couldn't deal with it so was causing issues,

all ok now :) as for parts, I go to my local parts company :)

OMG just been going through my list of upgrades I want to do(have only got round to pricing about half of it) and my grand total so far ........£2500ish, :o thats nearly £700 more than I paid for the car in the 1st place.

Best not let the mrs see my plans :giggle:

Hehe sounds familiar.

By the way there has been an Octy 4x4 modded up to well over 400bhp.
