£1000 incentive

Featured Replies

hi guys,

getting closer to me collecting my car, however i was reading another older thread on the forum about an £1000 incentive for going for a petrol instead of diesel.

i orginally wanted to go for a diesel the dealer had in his show room however he would not take anything off it even though 3 weeks later 1000 has been taken off it. he also said he could not give me the low rate finance which i found strange as it was a 2010 plate car.

anyway is this true about ordering a new octavia they can offer an £1000 incentive to go for petrol as opposed to the diesel?

just i think i may not be getting a good deal if this is the case.

cheers

The low rate finance is arranged through Skoda and the offers generally are on new (ie unregistered) cars. It's subsidised by the VW group to sell new cars.

Did you order under the "VAT free" deal since the New Year? This is only on the petrol VRS.

Diesel hatch list is £20980, petrol £20160.

So VAT free (no haggling) price on the petrol is £16800, a massive saving of £4180 over the diesel list price.

A well known web broker are quoting today £18995 for a diesel and £16581 for the petrol, so if we assume they are good post haggle prices there's still £2414 incentive to buy the petrol.

So do you need to worry about this £1000 you mention?

If I went to a dealer and they werent prepared to budge on price then dropped it 3 weeks after, I wouldnt buy from them on principle.

I think its fair enough, they wouldn't haggle further, the OP didn't buy it. Now they're trying to sell it for the price he wanted to pay but he isn't in the market any more so they've lost one potential buyer and they might not sell for a while.

It stands to reason that if you can wait and risk losing the car the price will drop if they don't sell it. That's how a market works.

thanks guys.

yes i ordered in march a petrol vrs however i wanted their ex demo diesel in the showroom however could not knock £1000 off.

the other thing is i just wondered if the 1k profit they gave in trade in was actually coming from the incentive and so they are not actually giving me anything more for my car if you know what i mean?

cheers

I think this extra £1000 incentive was put in late in the last quarter of 2010 for buyers who had ordered a diesel before 31/12/10

They could obviously see there was going to be a serious supply problem for diesels hence the promotions this year do not include them

thanks for the info guys.

The incentive to buy petrol when you bought yours was the fact that it was included in the VAT offer and the diesel wasn't.

The petrol was/is about £5k cheaper. There is no 'extra' £1000 incentive needed there!

The incentive you talk about was allegedly offered towards the very end of last year but at that point both were included in the VAT deal so the price difference was only about £1k.

I'm not sure there is anybody on here who actually took their dealer up on the offer- I ordered right around the time people were discussing it and I wasn't even offered it.

Don't worry, you're not missing out and your dealer isn't ripping you off.

These figures related to the discount are incorrect.

It should be remembered that the VAT free discount applies to the RRP, and NOT the on the road price.

So the discount on this particular car is in fact RRP = £19,330.00 - (£19,330 / 1.2 = £16,108.33) = £3,221.67

Giving an RRP of £16,108.33.

On the road price = RRP £16,108.33 + On the road cost £815.00 = £16,923.33

Which of course is still a very substantial discount.

The above figures are from the Skoda Price list dated 28th March 2011.
