Console bushes failed? Go to Unit 18

Featured Replies

I suspected my console bushes were past their best on my fabia vrs. Mot is due in June so I thought I would get ahead of the game and get them replaced. I was having symptoms that seemed typical of these flimsy bits of rubber failing, such as transmission shunt, excessive torque steer, loose feel to steering and a general vague feeling up front.

Considered going local (Surrey) but have heard a few stories on this forum of well meaning mechanics making a mess of it. So, I gave unit 18 a call, booked the car in for last Monday and headed there from my folk's place in Market harborough to get the superior cupra bushes fitted. The price they quite is worth the journey as you know the job will be done properly and it's cheaper than elsewhere.

I had some other work done too - rear arb and dogbone - and the whole job took about 3 hours. Will post separately about arb findings.

Alistair certainly knows what he is doing and I was very impressed with the whole experience. Friendly, professional, thorough, and very, very cheap considering the experience you are tapping into.

If you need your consoles doing, go to unit 18. Full stop.  It's worth the journey and the job will be done perfectly. Highly recommended.

Suffice to say, one of the old bushes was split and now all of the above problems have disappeared and the car feels incredibly tight and responsive.

Oh yes, you can take a walk down the canal and explore the aqueduct and horse tunnel. Barley mow pub also highly recommended!

Ali is a legend its defo worth the trip :)

Was that the LE? There were a few vrs there, which is a good sign, but I reckon mine was the dirtiest - the m1 has lots of flies on a warm spring day!

All my bushes were fitted at Unit18 :)

Mind you they were fitted by me..lol

New place is a massive improvement over the old unit.

yer it sure was, looking sorry for itself on standard wheels lol

I really need to get this done, pity U18 is so far away. I want to do it myself but just don't really have a good space to do it in. Really starting to notice what you refer to as "transmission shunt" (I'm assuming you mean the feeling like there's slack being taken up between putting your foot down and actually accelerating).

I was going to get a remap by Ali but things are wrong with the car atm so I'm getting them fixed first.

Have to say I've never read a bad thing about unit 18.

I was going to get edit - stupid phone.
