skoda fabia 1.4 problems

Featured Replies

Hi everyone, im looking for a little help here, well actually alot of help. I have a skoda fabia 1.4 16 valve petrol along with lights on my dash that never go away.

I have the power steering light on (most of the time) and headlights flicker whilst driving - i have had the battery checked and apparently everything is fine. They told me there was a loose wire going into the alternator which was fixed but still the problem is persisting!

next problem....

Engine managment light is on, which i got told is was a faulty oxygen sensor and an air lock which was again replaced and still the problem light didnt go off.

Next problem...

temperature light is always on, always bleeping when i first start the car, but temperature doesnt go past half way line although it does heat up very fast!

And finally...

After taking the car out for a drive, parking up and half an hour later when returning to the car as soon as i get in, there is a really strong smell of petrol :S

Someone please help me with these persisting problems!!!

Temp shouldn't go past half way, beeping is due to a crudded up level sensor, new header tank will sort it.

As for anything else it's impossible to say without either knowing fault codes or at least a model year.

Thanks for the reply :)

Is the header tank where you pour the coolant into? Stupid question but ive been pouring water into there as i got told that the reading on them isnt correct and you have to put slightly more in than what it indicates, surely enough when i do this the light goes away for a very short while. Water is what should be going in there isnt it? or does it take some special sort of coolant i need to buy?

As for the model year its a 2001 MPI model.

Thanks for any help you can give me :)

You should be putting g12 red/purple anti freeze, but how quickly is the level dropping? What is your engine code? Will be on a sticker on the boot floor, on the cam belt cover or the inside page of the service book, three letter code.

Could you be a bit more accurate about the engine as in first post you say it's the 1.4 16v, then you say it's the 1.4mpi..Trouble is that the mpi version was 8v not 16v. B)

EDIT:

There is an id sticker on the metalwork next to the sparewheel under the boot carpet, this will state (along with lots of other info) the engine type eg for 1.4mpi = AZE,AZF,AME,AQW,ATZ, FOR 1.416V = AUA,AUB,BBY,BBZ

Or there is a black metal plate on the inner wing next to the pasenger side headlight between the battery box and the screenwash. B)

Hi

I can help you with the flickering Lights whilst driving its going to be the Steering Angle sensor its shorting giving an intermittent fault. The dash lights will dim and brighten as it gets worse and then the PAS light will come on and that should then give you no power steering. I had the flickering lights etc and people said the battery the earth strap etc. It will be your angle sensor had mine done and all was well with the car. Its not cheap mind you around the £200 mark fitted. The PAS is driven by an electric pump not belts on the Fabia so any short in the system will drain power, even when all is well the steering will still dim the lights alittle if you turn the wheel stationary. I hope that answers one of your questions

Regards petrol smell, I suspect you may have a leak in the fuel system. Best checked out as aside from any safety implications you don't want your car pi$$ing liquid which costs £1.30 a litre everywhere

I think you may be right there, as my petrol seems to go down mega fast! put £25 pound in and the fill up light came on before i even hit 100 miles so i think il get that checked.

Many thanks mate
