milky white wheel bolts

Featured Replies

I was feeling quite smug that my Skoda badges front and rear were perfect......I've just noticed that all the wheel nut covers are spotted milky white, some almost completely white. Is this because of something my friendly car washers use in their wheel sprays?:wonder:

I'd hazard a guess on alloy wheel cleaner?

+ 1  coupled with a high pressure jet wash.

Don't worry about it too much. A replacement set are only £10 or so.

I think they fade in the sun .

Get some after market stick-on ones from E-Bay. (Cheap enough and some excellent designs.)

yes it is..

our fabia vrs developed exactly the same. looks bloody awful on black nut covers!

a small aerosol of gloss black soon resolved that.

wheel silver should sort it on the yeti.

or be a bit adventurous and spray them a different colour ?

Funnily enough I spent an hour last weekend trying to get rid of this on my Octavia's wheel nuts without any sucesss.

I had exacttly the same problem with my wife's Fabia 1 last year before we p/exd it for a Fabia 2.

In both cases it was caused by third parties cleaning the car. In the case of my Octavia it was a car respray company who it seems "cleaned" it before making a minor bodywork repair. The Fabia was also washed by a third party outfit to spruce it up before it got inspected by the local Skoda dealer for a p/ex value!

It's pernicious whatever this stuff is, but what perplexes me is that it only seems to affect the wheel nut covers. Anyway if somebody comes up with a solution to get rid of it then I'll be grateful!!

In the meantime avoid third parties cleaning your pride and joy!

i don't think it can be 'removed.'

the cause, as far as i understand it, is the cleaning solution that all the commercial car washes use.

it contains a caustic element that actually burns into these plastic parts and bleaching the colour out.

the only cure is not to have the car washed at a car wash but do it yourself i'm afraid.
