Help! Oil Leak

Featured Replies

Hi all,

Last night, I delivered some old brake parts to Barbourc1 and we started comparing our cars. Anyway, when I lifted my bonnet, I noticed spots of oil that had been sprayed onto my header tank :wonder:

I removed my engine cover for a better look. My upper boost pipe was replaced with one of the vRS Dovit stainless steel ones about two years ago, and there now appears to be an oil leak coming from where the boost pipe is attached (in my case, with a jubilee hose clamp) to the 90-degree rubber hose to the EGR valve.

I've never noticed oil here before, but two weeks ago when fitting my 312mm brakes, we had to disassemble the pipework in order to access the brake fluid reservoir. I thought it was tightened up properly afterwards, but either way, I'm a little concerned about the amount of oil that has appeared in the last two weeks/800 miles.

I'm wondering if it's just a goosed EGR valve, or if I have more serious underlying problems? I'm not getting any excess smoke or funny noises anywhere, and boost still seems normal, so I'm a bit stumped. The other thing is, surely this is filling my intercooler up with engine oil? :wonder:

Here's some photos. There is a fair bit of oil on the underside of the pipe:

Any help is appreciated!

Thanks,

Andrew

Oil is sucked up from the engine and into the i/c pipework, thats normal and looks more than it is. The intercooler pipework should only need cleaning every few years. Hope your shore leave is not totally taken up with fixing the car.

Hmm, I hope it's nothing to worry about other than a split or crack in the hose perhaps? I say that as I just went out and that jubilee clip is definitely tight.

Got some photos too and put them in my original post.

Take hose off and look for any cuts.. But even a small boost leak with make a terrible hissing sound!

Give all pipes a clean with carb cleaner then get some mikalor clamps as jubilees are garbage

Good thinking Jase, will give that a go. There's a very slight noise under acceleration, could be a hiss, but I don't know if it's got worse lately...might always have been there.

Might also spur me on to do the EGR delete with a nice new silcone hose...

It may even be the top fixing on your intercooler is slighly worn and under boost is leaking a bit of oil and spraying it upwards?

Just a possibility!

Btw boost hoses / intercoolers are a nightmare on a diesel!

Super high pressure to low bhp output! Petrol turbo's where it at
