First birthday

Featured Replies

Just quick report on my Yeti, that has just had its first birthday.

So far done 8000 miles and averaging around 45mpg on mostly urban driving. This goes up on a longer run to low 50's, so all told not too bad mpg. Only cash I have spent other than fuel was an oil/filter change at the weekend for £60, I have doubts about long life service plan! Oh and the £115 road tax (envious of the greenline owning members).

Comfort wise its great, no problems at all. Drove down to Spain and in one day did 500+ miles and got out with no aches or pains. Stereo is good, sd card a plus and controls on the steering wheel make it easy. Phone integration is a bonus. When you want to push it the handling is amazing, sticks well to the road and tracks well. The ride can be busy at times and other times its great, so maybe that's me !

The 2.0tdi 110bhp is “adequate” I would say. Not very fast either in acceleration or putting your foot down on the motorway in 5th to get past something. Its not bad, but its not great. I couldn't afford the 140bhp at the time but would love to see the difference between them. But it is very smooth, and the magazines and reviews saying its not are talking rubbish. Gearing is overall OK but doesn't like 5th at 40mph. Had an Octy that loved 5th at 30mph!

I love the xenon lights, the versatility of all the rear seat combinations and like the slightly elevated view out. The looks still work for me mostly, although parked next to the new Kia thingy must say it looked better than the Yeti (to me anyway).

Regret I didn't order the spare wheel. Touch wood no puncture yet, but it will happen no doubt one day. Reason I didn't order it was the (IMO) pathetic boot space with the spare wheel fitted. Couldn't they fit a space saver ! Or hang one on the back door!

Can say that problem wise I have been lucky and almost 100% fault free. The stereo stopped working and went blank (but still sound coming out) for half an hour then righted itself. My headlights cleaners froze in the bad weather but after visiting the forum and a 40p fuse later, that was easily fixed and that's it problem wise.

The diesel particulate light has never come on at all, and that was one of my worries.

There are some things that slightly irritate me though. With the cruise on, nowhere to rest your right foot. The armrests are not in the right place for me, both the central and the door one, the centre being the bugbear, its need to be higher and further out. Its a pain in the arse to clean as it likes to suck up dirt. With the roof being high I had to buy a small stepladder, and I am 6ft3 ! Don't get me wrong, I like to wash my car, but after many previous cars this takes longer to do. By a fair amount!

Would I buy another.........maybe. I find it hard to buy the same car twice but overall I would say I am a very happy Yeti owner overall. 45Mpg, comfy, no reliability problems and all the toys to play with, no real complaints.

Hi Weedge.

Good report.

Glad you've had a problem free year. the 2wd 110Cr does seem to be the sweetest combination on the fuel economy front. My remapped CR140 DSG will do in the low 40's and on a long run mid 40's, but the overall average is about 36mpg. Too much driving around south & central London.....

The £185 or whatever it will be when it comes round to re-tax is a great deal more though - the price for 4x4 and automatic I guessemoticon-0136-giggle.gif

Happy Birthday.

One thing I have noticed, now Betty has reached 18,000 miles, is that the engine is so much looser and freer revving. The MPG has improved as well.

Same here about the armrests and I am 5'6". Probably it's the way we positioned the seat?

The arm rests are fine if you have the seat low down and for me that means looking out of the middle of the windscreen. I'm almost 6' (never quite made itemoticon-0136-giggle.gif) and I have the seat almost too high, but I love the higher driving position. You get used to ducking round the mirror in the blind spot, but having the seat that high means my arms, which according to swmbo are long, are nowhere near the arm rests, even in the central ones upper position......If I'm low down, and I have tried it, I feel I can't see over the bonnet or out of the car, so seat is high.....but I always drive with both hands on the steering wheel, and have driven 8 hours in 10 and not had a problem....

I use cruise control a lot.

I rest my right heel on the bottom of the accelerator/floor and the right side of the top of my foot against the side of the footwell. Its reasonably comfortable and as my foot is already on the accelerator, no hesitation in responding to a need to brake or accelerate suddenly. As long as you don't push down on the accelerator top the pedal hinge will comfortably support the foot yet not affect the cruise setting.

I put both my feet up on the dashboard, legs either side of the steering wheel, recline my seat and steer with the knees. :D
