SD Card and Columbus

Featured Replies

Hi,

I've just fitted a Columbus to my Octavia. The software version is 1024 (old i know). Can anyone tell me what SD card i can use to play music and import to the HDD i.e. is there a limit on the capacity? Can i use a 16GB card?

Thanks, Lee

Sorry, i've answered my own question, it's 2GB. I read the handbook :o

I dont know what the maximum size card is for that firware but I would guess at 2mb.

I have just upgraded my firware to V2760 and I can now use a 32gb SD card so I would have thought 16gb will be no problem.

FW1024 has a 2GB non SDHC card limit, you'll need to upgrade it to at least 2760 to get a 16GB working. To put that firmware on you'll also need to upgrade the can gateway due to the Octy being 2006 otherwise your battery will go flat quickly. Upgrading is quiet straightforward but a massive risk if you bought the columbus from ebay.

The columbus has its own internal HDD with around 17GB free for music, so you could copy the music onto the HDD and play it from that.

Does FW2724 only play up to 2GB too?

2Gb is more than enough on the SD i think. Especially when, as you say, there's a 17 GB HDD to copy music too. Then there's the CD player, the CD multichanger, and the Aux In. What a system, i love it!

why is it a massive risk if you bought from ebay..? What have they done to the units to make them risky..? Im guessing it something to do with assigning a new security code or something like that..?

A good percentage of EBay units are of "questionable heritage" - search around these forums for more discussion on this subject.

Because they aren't legit some soldering has been done so that the unit can be reused after it was ripped out of someone's pride and joy.

When you come to update the firmware you then brick the unit - to the point where it really is nothing more than an expensive door-stop.

If the unit was a factory fit then just install the firmware and all will be well.
