THINKING TURBO PROBLEM **HELP**

Featured Replies

HI all, i would greatly appriciate any help off anyone as i cant think of what's wrong with my car.

i was driving back from base today and after being on the motorway for 150 miles and pulling off onto a slip road i noticed a loud high pitch weering noise. then it got worse and worse as i accelerated. whilst trying to pull off it kept doing it and there was absolutely no turbo power at all. there are no loose hoses but i dont really know much about turbo's. my dad said there was a linkage that looks like it should be doing something when i accelrated but it just wasn't. only 7 month ago it had a brand new stock turbo put on it so i dont have a clue what it will be. any help would greatly appriciated. :-( :-(

It sounds just like what happened when one of my hoses popped off.

can you remember what hose it was and where its located???

It was one of the ones on the diverter valve so allowed air to blow out of the intake.

I'd double check all of your hoses again and look for splits or any that have come off.

If it's really loud it could be the large pipe from the pancake pipe to the intercooler behind the O/S/F wheel arch liner.

Mine came off after i had the cambelt replaced. No power at all, was like driving a 1.0 N/A motor with a rather loud whistling / wooshing noise.

Did you get a loud pop or bang on the motorway? When a pipe comes off, especially the main boost pipes, they tend to make a loud bang.

The actuator your dad meant is probably the wastegate actuator, which won't do anything until you get a proper load on the engine. The vRS doesn't have any actuators or anything which are linked to the throttle (not that you can see without taking the intake hose that is).

Have a look behind the drivers fron wheel. There is a flat aluminium pipe in there, and the pipes can sometimes blow off, especially if it's an early vRS, as VW revised the pipe fittings.

Connection from pipe 10 to 12 is the one.
