Sorry....just cleaning my keyboard! :giggle:

Instead of a huge discount, why don't they just reduce the price of the cars in the first place =/?

Because now it would be perceived that they have been overcharging for the last year or two!

Skoda decided, quite wisely, that a good way to crack the badge snobbery problem was to offer an official discount through direct advertising. The carrot of "VAT off" is something that people can easily visualize and the stick of "finishing soon" (as used for centuries by DFS) is a powerful pusher.

It has been an extremely successful campaign that has probably somewhat annoyed or frustrated their parent VW (lost sales).

Looks like now they have reduced the official discount to 15% (pay only 5% VAT). Still attractive but getting closer to the 10% that most cars (except the most "desirable") can be negotiated.

There is still some stigma associated with Skoda, that should ensure that a healthy discount continues to be available.

Ah cool :)! I may have to revert to it soon for certain things!

Because if they did that everyone would buy cheap. Better for profit margins to have a big discount available if anyone dares to negotiate, and let anyone who doesnt negotiate pay in full.

I bought a VRS in early August 2010 way before the no-vat and not long after launch. I negotiated £2k off the price by ringing several non-local dealers. Each one I rang knew that the only reason they could sell me a car would be on price.

I know some people are a little afraid of negotiation but you just tell them your desired specification and ask them for their best price. Then tell them in a friendly way they are having a laugh! Or tell them you will buy from them if the price is £X and leave your number.

Its fun and becomes addictive, SWMBO sighs when I do this in electrical stores and come out with discounts but there is no such thing as a fixed price, everything is always negotiable!

I'm pretty crap at negotating! If i go into say.. Currys to buy a tv, I buy it at the advertised price as I would get major embaressed asking for a discount! Dunno why, must be because I'm british!!

I walked into 2 dealerships to buy my car, the first offered me a joke price and I walked out! 2 days later he called back seeing if i had a change of heart and I just kindly said 'I bought from somewhere else where they didnt rip me off, thanks all the same though' and put the phone down :)

British? Cymro!!! Gynta ia European wedyn British?, just put your welsh hat on and demand a better deal , don't ask don't get!!

New deal is now on Skoda UK website. Skoda will now pay 15% of the VAT rather than 20%. Previous deal was effectively 16.66% discount (before delivery etc.), new deal is 12.5%.

A discount is a discount :)

If you've missed the boat this time I shouldnt worry too much. Killing the VAT deal will hurt sales, Skoda have to offer big discounts to shift the volume they do thats how they turn a profit, selling many for less. I think its been done purely so they can deal with their overflowing order books as the situation has become rather daft. Give it 6 months it will be back on; though i'll personally be surprised if the Fabia vRS rejoins the deal.

just been told bymy dealer that the fabias will now have 3years free servicing on them and i think a lower rate of vat,i might be able to qualify for the servicing on my monte which is due land on these shores this week. dim ond amser a ddengys

wonder if thats on the vat frees

or just the new deal

just had an email back from the factory

saying get in touch with skoda uk

just like one big roundabout and no fat controller

The 3 years free servicing seems to apply to cars purchased using Skoda Finance only, not all new cars.

Thank goodness some one at last understands how % work.

But do remember that the figures only apply to the RRP, and not the final on the road price.
