Bolt size....rear brake caliper to rear hub?

Featured Replies

Does anyone know the thread size or what kinda bolt is used to attract the rear brake caliper onto the rear brake hub? I've not got etka access at mo, as computers at home, and need it desperately lol :-(

Caliper mounting bracket to hub are M10 x 1.25 x 30mm

It's an 8mm Allen key that holds the carrier to the rear beam.

Don't have to remove this when changing the standard non vented rear discs.

Yep, Techie, it's the 8mm allen key head one.

It seems that the carrier itself is helicoiled? Is this a standard thing?

Thanks Run4mo as well.

Don't know if anyone's intrested, but the part no is N 907 403 02...........

THe bolt left the caliper at around 50mph yesterday, scariest thing ever. Needless to say the wheel and caliper took a beating!

The hub would not have started life heli-coiled - that's too expensive, if not correct at where it was forged etc, it would have been rejected back as scrap material. Fitting heli-coils as standard would, I'd expect, only occur when light alloy castings/machined parts are going to be subject to a bit of re-building - and where that part is high value.

I've read reports of this happening at the front of VAG cars, so I've been a bit concerned whenever I've removed any calipers or mounting brackets - but so far been lucky - maybe this one got overtightened earlier on in its life!

The carrier is threaded, sounds like the thread has pulled out to me by the bolt being over tightened.

Just checked it over, cleaned it as well. The carriers thread are both ok, threads not pulled out. I'm starting to think I didn't tighten the bolts up enough now.it's not helicoiled either, as the aa man said ( he wouldn't let me go near it due to HSE).

I've noticed the thread doesnt cover the entire length of the hole though, probably only 50% of it......but it's the same in both carrier holes....tech1e, can you please confirm this is normal?

One good things come out of this experience.....I got to buy some new pads, so I got an excuse to get ds2500s......
