Sunroof issues

Featured Replies

I've tried to use the search function but either I missed it or it hasn't been covered so.....

I'm having issues with my sunroof. When I switch it from full open to closed it will sometimes close halfway then change its mind and reverse its track back to full open. If I then try again it will sometimes repeat or it will then decide it wants to close fully but it always seems to go past the seated fully closed point to slightly into its pop-up mode.

Is there something I can do to reset the point at which the sunroof stops or do I need to take it into a garage and get them to fix it?

Thanks

Paul

Dirt in the tracks? Maybe it needs greasing? iirc, there is some special stuff to use, so it does not attract too much dirt.

mbames is right as the motor will reverse if there an obstruction in the track. The windows do the same.

You could try operating the roof by hand to see if it suddenly gets stiffer - that should help to confirm the issue. There should be a manual operation tool up near to the center lights in the headline (check your owners guide).

I am not familiar with the workings of this, the only other thing I can think of is some frayed wires, but I am not sure if that is how this design operates.

Clean the runners, & spray them with silicone grease.

Thanks for the responses. I've cleaned out the runners and sprayed the tracks with WD40 and it doesn't seem to be a problem now but I still can't get it to seat properly at the end of its run.

It just seems to go slightly too far before the switch kicks in and stops the sunroof. It is bad enough that when I get the car cleaned it leaks through the seal so is there a way of adjusting this manually please

<edit - I've just popped the centre light off and I can manually adjust from there but once I use the sunroof again it doesn't seat properly and I'm left with the same problem all over. I just need a way of over-riding the trip point that cuts out the motor once the sunroof is seated, is this possible?>

Sorry, I don't know how the roof can be adjusted like that.... maybe someone else does, of you looked at the Workshop manuals for the sunroof you might see something.

Does your sunroof get a lot of use? I am wondering if the sensor point has worn, and thus it detects the position a fraction too late/
