Car Performance Android App

Featured Replies

Downloaded it today and went out for a play in my mapped & PD 160'd Fabia VRS. I got a variety of times on a variety of roads (surfaces and slight inclines)...I think they would be very different on a 'proper' piece of tarmac like Santa Pod or a track. Anyway, the times were, 8.20, 8.45, 9.49 & 7.61. That makes my average time 8.43.

How does this time compare to your experience? Does anyone know the accuracy of using these kind of apps?

I meant to post this in the Fabia I forum...is there anyway to move it?

Mods can move it, but you can't do it yourself.

I had one of these on my iPod touch and got to 30mph in my bedroom!

Yet to try one on my phone using GPS and stuff. Be interesting to see though.

Ok, thanks.

Why was your car in your bedroom? :o

I think the inconsistency of the times was down to road conditions rather than the app...at some point I hope to test it a number of times on a piece of decent tarmac and see how consistent the times are then.

Sorry, I meant it was so bad without being able to track my location and working purely off the accelormeter (sp) that shacking it could get the speeds up. Really badly phrased previous post!

Might be some variation down to launches, gear changes etc too.

Theres a couple I know,

adyno - not sure if its still on market, I cant seem to find it anymore. Still have it on my phone so never bothered to find out where it went lol.

When mine was std it worked pretty well, also when i had the 1.4mpi that was nearly spot on on telling me the bhp, didnt time the 0-60 for either. Will give it a go later.

Torque - good app but need bluetooth adaptor to get it to work.

I don't have an Android based phone as I have a Nokia, but downloaded one called RaceChrono which uses the built-in GPS in the phone and I did 2 runs on a private road going from 30mph to 70mph thru the gears. 1st run was running standard power and I managed 10secs, 2nd run was running remapped power and that was 6.5secs.

You could also give SpeedView a try.

Tried the adyno thing tonight and it told me I'm getting 176hp and 279ftlb, sounds about right, hehe.

No worries! I was joking with the car in the bedroom remark :p

I've found it on App Brain and will download it and try it today hopefully...I wonder how it calculates the BHP?

I've been playing around with Torque for some time

Got the bluetooth under the dash, works well for what it is, little bit wierd connecting sometimes if I'm honest.

I think it works out power from the maf values so not really accurate.

It missed my codes for the abs pump mind but I think it only really covers engine codes in fairness

input weight of car (3000lbs which is around 1360kg),

input min and max rpm (mine was 1500 to 4500),

min and max speed of the specific gear your testing (I used 2nd gear from 18mph to 45mph),

using the accelerometer plus all the info you get a pretty good idea of torque and thus working out bhp.

Accuracy is within 10% (guess) which isnt too bad at all.
