Strange occurrence today

Featured Replies

Had a bit of a strange occurrence today at work. Pulled up to park the car ( 1.2 tsi DSG ) and put into reverse and reversed into the bay. Put it into drive to square it up and got about 3ft and basically the engine had cut out on me. Being new to an automatic is it true that you can't stall an automatic? It restarted all ok and no warning lights have came up so just a bit puzzled. Have had it since beginning of march and no problems. Was wondering if this has happened to anyone else on here. Thanks

Hi Preston should not be possible to stall a automatic? However there have been several owners of the dsg gearbox saying they have had a problem with stalling

My Friend managed to stall mine last week... where where driving on the A5025 on Angelsey, he went to Change gear like in his manual, and dipped the "clutch" this of course was the brake pedal, we came to a Screetching stop, and the engine decided it wasnt happy and stalled... this was basically a full on emergency stop, thankfully there was no-one behind us!

I have had a few times (Maybe 3 times in total) when the engine was cold, and the gear changes have been very jumpy between 2nd and 3rd. But other than that mentioned above, no stalling.

I had a Toyota Avensis petrol auto which stalled a few times and the dealer eventually did a software update/reinstall and it was fine after then. I know the Fabia auto box isn't the same type as the Avensis but still shows it can happen to auto's.

Mine stalled for my gf when she was about to drive away in the car (vRS that is).

How odd lol

the dsg box has two clutches one driving the other waiting to engage so probably when you was in reverse and then went into 1st the engine had not got enough revs so stalled maybe??

Yes but still shouldn't stall?

Because they are a dual clutch set up..Yes they can stall.

Its not very easy but it has happened to me once...In my Octavia

A 100% Auto cannot.

OK Seboni?

OK Seboni?, why have I stepped on someone's toes??, sorry if I have done so ,all my times I've driven auto never had one stalled but the dual clutch maybe the issue here?,this is new technology so that's why I questioned, even when in America the autos I had didn't stall

There you go chrisrs never said 100% ?

I said a Full Auto (100% Auto)ie not a DSG will NOT stall..A DSG might do.

Its not uncommon

Yes I agree with what people are saying here, although it behaves like an auto, it is in fact a robotised manual gearbox (no torque converter etc). I guess under certain circumstances it would be possible to stall one; the electronics are only so clever.

You hit the nail on the head

That's a good explanation

I have a similar motor and mine did this once when i pulled up at a crossing but has never done it since

I didn't stall it but I neally put the salesman through the windscreen demoing VRS. I did the same thing went to push the clutch in at a junction and hit the brake. lol I guess they get use to it .
