Rumbling noise after being parked up for a while?

Featured Replies

Hi my octavia came off the road begining of march when i got my discovery. Since it was off the road it was started every 5 days warmed up and driven about quarter of a mile each time to keep everything moving.

Now when I drove it to the mot station last week that was a slight rumbling coming from the front offside. I thought it was just rust on the disc, so sped up to about 40mph and braked sharply couple times to see if it would stop. It didnt.

I told the mot'er about it when i took it there and he couldnt find anything wrong with it.

I have now driven it around 100 miles since the mot, the rumbling is still there, It also gets louder as I turn right. Also when i first move off after being parked for a few hours or more it knocks quite badly. But after you drive for 20 meters or so it stops. Even if you stop and pull away again it doesnt do it?? Its only the initial pull away after being left for a couple hours. It is quite a heavy knock, and you can feel the car vibrate a little.

Any ideas?

Sorry about the essay but saves everyone asking loads of questions! Thanks Joe :)

Well thats what i thought it would have been but that doesent explain the knocking :S

I had the same problem after 11days of stationary.Same noise but dissapear after 10 miles.

Knackered tyre, try popping the spare on?

Any steering wheel vibrations when driving?

No vibrations when driving. I think the knocking noise might be the exhaust, and when it warms up it just stops as its expanded a bit

What happens if you turn the steering lock to lock before pulling off?
