Replacement Key

Featured Replies

Own a 53 Plate Octavia and have misplaced 1 of the keys (Kids most likely  )

Had a feeling it was going to be expensive, just not quite that bad...

£130 for a replacement Flip Key (with Remote) and £28 to recode the new key and my other key.

I expected the recoding cost to be a lot, not the actual key!!!!

Don't mind paying the £28, would rather get a key cheaper - Any suggestions?

Ebay?

Was looking at keys on ebay yesterday. Had a quick look and found some blank flip keys for under a tenner

Open up your key & get the part number which is inside. You should be able to find one on ebay that is the same part number. IT MUST BE THE SAME NUMBER OR IT WONT WORK. Obviously you'll still need to get it programmed to the car.

Plenty of key blanks on ebay too which most key cutters can cut for you off your existing key.

If only it was quite as simple as the other replies suggest :giggle:

After you have the replacement key you will then need a brand new (uncoded) transponder to go into the remote (this is for the immobilizer) hickleys.com is your best place to obtain one, you will also need to buy a new key blade and get it LASER cut.

Once you have all the hardware you will need the SKC (Secret Key Code) for the vehicle and finally someone with VCDS to code it all to the car.

It is still not a cheap thing to do but you can easily do it for less than half the dealer price.

Thanks, I knew it wouldn't be that easy.

Bid and lost for a full working key yesterday and have seen the blank blade on ebay

The £30 for coding I can swallow, its the cost of the key that irks

Will look around for someone to do laser cutting, but getting more inclined to save myself the hassle and spend the money...
