What are you trying to do? Replace the compressor or remove it?

i want to replace it with a new one, the air con guy that came to do the service told me that the reed valves had gone and it would it would cost me around £400 for parts and labour. just trying to save some cash ,i can get a new one for £200 and fit it myself then just get it re gassed as he has sucked all the gas out already

You will need to release the tension on the belt my moving the aux tensioner. You can lock it back using a pin (ie. suitable sized nail)

replace it with a new one

If you are replacing the compressor you need to flush the system to remove any bits of the faulty compressor. If you don't, then the new compressor won't last long. You will also need new o-rings, a new drier (£20 ECP) and I would recommend that you change the TXV (£40 ECP).

Recover the R134a and PAG oil so the system is empty.

Turn the nut on the tensioner and put a 3mm Allan key in the hole so the belt is loose.

Remove the belt. If you are going to reuse the belt you need to keep it clean and remember which direction it rotates. Consider replacing the belt (£10 ECP).

Disconnect the wiring to the compressor.

Remove the refrigerant hoses and undo the compressor mounting bolts. Make sure you don't get R134a on your hands or you may get frostbite.

Remove the compressor.

Remove the drier.

Remove the TXV.

Reverse flush all the components with compressed air (ideally followed by Nitrogen).

Refit TXV using new o-rings

Check compressor is factory filled with PAG oil. If not add the correct amount of PAG oil (see label by LP port) throught the compressor drain plug. Turn the compressor until the oil starts to come out of the compressor discharge port.

Refit compressor using new o-rings.

Refit the drier using new o-rings. Don't do this until you are ready to have the system charged.

Have the system purged and charged.

ENSURE THE COMPRESSOR IS NOT RUN UNTIL IT IS CHARGED.

TELL WHOEVER IS GOING TO CHARGE THE SYSTEM THAT IT IS EMPTY.

might save up some more pennies and get the professionals to do it if i need to do all that.i don't want to risk cocking up the hole system and paying out for a new comp after 6 months
