Engine oil Temp and Speed warning

Featured Replies

Need a bit of advice, picked up my Fabia Vrs last week from the dealers but the engine oil temp and speed warning just has lines through it, as if there is no data. Do I have to do a certain mileage before it reads or is it broke.... Anyone else have this issue??? :wonder:

Speed warning will only show a value once you have selected what that speed is.Consult the handbook but i believe you just hold down the 'B' button on the underside of the stalk for five seconds and then set your desired value. Did mine months ago so can't totally recall off hand now. :)

With regards to the oil temp, when are you looking for this? i believe it only shows a value once the oil temp reaches 60 deg C so from start up no figure will be recorded. Try scrolling through the screens on the Maxi dot once you have been for a drive. I think you may then find a value recorded. B)

If however, you still have three horizontal lines then back to the dealers as you may well have a problem.

Hi all, Thanks for advice-longest drive I have been on is around 45-an hour so would hope oil is above 60degrees C by then. Its understandable about speed warning but from few forums I have read the oil temp should be on straight away.... ;)

Oil temp on mine doesn't show until it's over 60 degrees, takes a good 6-8 mins to get there. It's usually around 85ish, though I have seen 105 degrees during more "energetic" driving :D

If yours isn't ever showing the temp, something seems wrong.

RIGHT..Its going back I've had quite poor service from the Skoda Garage anyway so will be nice to pop in... :giggle:

Yeh doesn't appear till 60oC comes up. You'll find it sits at 85 to 90oC or as others have said, up to 105oC for spirited driving.

If it doesn't appear at all, dealers :S

I don't know if the same is true for the Fabia but I have heard that in an Octavia the oil temp will only show up if the car is set to variable servicing. If set to fixed then the three dashes are all you will get.

I have this same problem, reckon it's worth taking it to the dealers today or next week when the servicing department is in?

As the oil temperature feature on vRS Maxi Dot is not covered in the manual I am at a loss as to how to select it.

Can anyone give step by step instructions.

It doesn't appear when I scroll through the menu items.

Tony :(

Ah ha, I've had another fiddle and reset to factory defaults and found oil temp.

It must have been unset on delivery.

my oil temp reads "---°C" for about ten minutes, on a mild day, then reads "50°C" and above. I've never seen it higher than 97°C though.

Oil Temperature display as well as the variable service regime is set at the factory, they are both linked to monitor the oil degredation on the high mileage that could be encounted on variable service, up to say 18k miles.

On the fixed annual service the oil quality is not monitored by the engine electronics and therfore the oil temperature will not be displayed.

Your dealer can initiate the oil temperature display whilst still maintaining the annal service system.

Hope this helps.

I don't think you need the dealer. I just selected factory defaults then selected 'oil temp'; I am on fixed servicing which I can't alter. I think this clears all history BTW, fuel consumption, etc.

Oh dear; I wonder if different dealers configure Maxi Dot differently on delivery?

My dealer said I could have the fabia VRS in Manual.... doubt they would know how to tune radio let alone anything technical...

I know on mine even when the engine is warm you have to select the oil temp display and leave it on for a little while then it will show.

otherwise it will probably be a vagcom jobby

Interesting I have a annual service as I only do 5,000 per annum and the sticker on the inside of the door says this, however I can get oil temp up on the Maxi Dot, never reset it i was on the system from the start.

Does take a few mins to appear (ie when the engines good and warm).

Surely its not disabled for annual services then ?
