How to use bolero as an dvd player / navigator

Featured Replies

I searched our beloved forum and found nothing on this topic, but searched Google and found something in a German page :

boreo radio tweak

which gives some links about a device which modifies/uses the bolero screen to play dvd videos and navigate. Can someone confirm this? Has anyone done this or any other modification of this sort to the Bolero?

The add on is called QVL RCD510 and here is one of the videos I could find:

If you watch the video you can see the Bolero also used as a tv and as a display for rear cameras.

Seems like a good add on, but you would still need someone to install it because it looks difficult to install. Also I don't know the price.

After one month of ownership, I think its still too early for me to start doing anything that involves using a screwdriver. But something to keep in mind for later.

The shop that does this mod i know quite well.

In all honesty its an awful hack job that involves ripping apart the original unit and soldering in a bunch of cables to allow an external box to work on the screen, i believe the box houses the GPS.

Anyway its not a very nice job to be honest, to make things worse the price for the conversion is around £700!.

So its not as good as an original or aftermarket GPS/DVD player and it costs more......

And just think.................if you WERE able to receive TV on the bolero unit, how good is the reception???

Don't pay out £700 odd on a conversion so you can watch a blank screen displaying the message 'Unable to receive signal due to poor reception.

I have a satnav that has a built-in TV function and I never use it because the reception only managed to download channels I don't like anyway. emoticon-0106-crying.gif

My opinion is to leave the Bolero as it is. emoticon-0144-nod.gif

You reminded me of something, the resolution is lower on the bolero and thus the videos look kinda muddy.

Also i had a expensive setup in my previous car (nissan teana) it had tv and tons of boxs and aerials all built in, tv would drop in and out rendomly, it was so rubbish i had it removed.

I am actually more keen to see if the Bolero could be cracked to run on Windows CE. There are all sorts of geniuses out there who could make a 5 year old Smart Phone run iPhone OS.
