door open light

Featured Replies

This morning the door open red light on the dash was illuminated when I got into the car... all doors etc are closed..

is there a changeable switch per door? do these go faulty? anything else I can check before raking the switches out?

There are 3 microswitches in the door lock assembly (at least on the drivers door), and I think one of these can fail. With some care and attention they are replacable if your are handy with a soldering ironing.

When you lock the car does the arm light flash? Is the light at the bottom of the drivers door on even when closed?

have a search there is a guide (possibly one on the Gold mk4 forums too)

As mentioned your door locking mechanism is probably the culprit. A microswitch is failing and thus your car door thinks it is open. You probably have the door open light on the dash too.

I did this guide to replacing the microswitch

It is fiddly and not for everyone to attempt but possible. Or bite the bullet and get a replacemt lock asm at around £100.

thanks for the information, will check this a little later.

Hopefully this will cure my fault....

Door light/interior lights are not operated when the drivers door is open-it's as though the door is still shut.....

All other electrics & central locking are working fine though....

strong Possibly

Could be just the wiring loom to that door, the bit between the door and the car, was having this problem myself but got worse and other electrics stopped working, found two wires in the loom that had very badly worn insulation( none left at all) and one wire that had snapped, all works fine now i've sorted the wiring in the door loom

Hi there Ive had this problem on two octavia vrs's,its seem to always originate from the boot switch, its looks as its the connection on the boot switch,If you remove the large black cover on the boot lid(just pull it down and then towards you,its just clipped in),you will see where the wire harness plugs into the boot switch, unplug the connector and look if its not covered in oil from the boot switch,it needs to be cleaned with alcohole cleansing agent then plugged back in,see if this cures your problem.

Matt, thanks for the tip.... will certainly have a look at this... its so intermittent at the moment that I haven`t spent any more time on it.

I had this too on my vRS. The boot latch can be adjusted by popping out the inspection hatch just below the latch bar. (on the car, not the bootlid) I think it's either torx, or star drive. It's a 5 minute job. Too loose and the boot will rattle, and not be water tight. To tight, and the boot will either not latch, or if it does, not close enough to operate the microswitch in the lock, hence the warning light on your dash.

When the light is on your dash, and the interior light's not on, it is NOT a door switch!!
