Yeti 1.6 Greenline 11 conversion to LPG.

Featured Replies

Hi Everyone

Knew boy on the block, like to say hello and look forward to some good banter.

I'd like to ask if anybody has had any experience with the Yeti 1.6 Greenline 11 being converted to lpg? Is this possible and if so are you happy with the results. Cheers

Surely the benefits on an lpg conversion would only be seen on a less thrifty vehicle?! It would take tens of thousands of miles before you even broke even and got the cost of the LPG installation back. :smirk:

I very much doubt that anyone has even considered this, considering how new the Greenline is, plus the excellent fuel consumption that it has now.

Does LPG work with a diesel? if not then forget it as it 'aint compatible.

Added to which, there are vast areas of the country where you can't get LPG easily, you couldn't take the car on a Eurotunnel train ... I wouldn't bother.

I think you need spark plugs - so no it 'aint. Now a conversion to rape seed or old chip oil might be more interesting :wonder:

I think our CR diesels are too highly strung for using those alternatives, they work okay if you have an old non turbo engine.

LPG and diesel are incompatable - LPG is spark ignition.

which is what I thought.

I am involved in working to change that... so far up to 15% is OK, not for private cars though really; but could be a big saving for transport fleets.

Isn't LPG a bit "old hat".

I thought the latest idea was to have a hydrogen conversion done where the engine runs on both petrol and hydrogen.

The hydrogen is produced in car from water.

Where does the energy to split water into Hydrogen and Oxygen come from in a car?

Electricity

All I am doing is making an observation not a recommendation.

Works with diesels...

Works with LPG...

Looks very interesting, with the amount of money I'm spending on fuel at the moment.....I wonder whether the warranty will be affected? and if it will work with the very(?) modern CR turbo diesels in our Yeti?

I have send them an email. I could do with somebody nearer London though....(Ok there is the manchester based one. They are well over half the installation price of the Scottish one.)

So the electricity required is generated by the engine using up fuel. The hydrogen created is then burnt along with diesel fuel so - in theory - reducing the amount of diesel used but increasing the energy required from the engine for the generation of the extra electricity.. Sounds like a bad case of perpetual motion to me.

there is a lot of information on the internet about this. I'm Skeptical, but it all looks feasible. If I can make my car less dependant on Shell etc I would be more than happy.

There is even an american who claims he uses water to cut through lead and bricks.......using this method of making HHO gas. Hmmmm...and power his car.

I have only seen people talking about converting old cars. Not new cars. Hence my query to both companies.

Don't blame me...

I'm as sceptical as Terfyn...

kiss your engine warranty goodbye (???)
