Engine Managment Light On Again

Featured Replies

Hi All

My 1.4 16v Elegance has just had its rear exhaust sensor replaced due to the the Engine Orange Dash Light on, my local garage had the car diagonsed for this fault and after they replaced it the light went out. However a day later and the light came back on, the car went back to the garage and the fault that showed was the same fault as before. They cleared the fualt with their Bosch tool and reset the warning light, now two days on and the light has just turned on again. Its starting to wind me up now, after they replaced the sensor should the car have had to go on a VAG COMM system to be reset or should it have cleared. Is there any way I can reset it myself, I dont have a fault code reader all ideas would be great many thanks.

Sounds very much like the sensor wasn't faulty and the fault lies elsewhere. However without knowing what the code is it's difficult to advise best course of action.

I have not changed any of the exhaust parts on the car since buying it in December 2010 and the local garage say its all genuine Skoda exhaust on the car.

I've got the same car by the looks of it....had similar problems mainly due to high flow sports cat not scrubbing enough pollutants!!! There is a product called "Cataclean" I think...used it before...very good at cleaning the cats....pour this stuff into petrol tank, and it survives the combustion process and passes through the cat cleaning it.....used allot in trade, to get cars to "pass" Mot's emissions. Won't really know until definition is posted....thing is that it uses two lambda sensors and compares the readings (one sensor just after the engine..the other after both the cats)! What petrol do you use?? B)

I use standard unleaded from Tesco or Shell and I have never had a problem and the cat is a standard genuine Skoda one.

If it is the 100bhp version you should use Super Unleaded (like V_Power) and give it an "italian tune" (high rpm on motorway, high acceleration).

Amen to that :thumbup:B)

Hi All,

Thanks for the replys well no amount of foot to the floor or Cat cleaning fluid was going to work. The car showed up a new fault code on a VAG COMM system the new rear exhaust sensor needed to be set up to the car via VAG COMM. It seems that any sensor changes or throttle changes need to be set up to the car once this is done the light stays out and all is well. Im lucky my local garage knows a guy with the full setup so its now sorted and a lesson to all any changes need to be reset via the VAG COMM.

There is only one kind of set up to do relating to oxygen sensors and that's a readiness code check, but that will do itself anyhow and won't bring a light on.

Hi,

Thanks for the reply my garage had the car on the VW software setup and the garage manager who I have used now for 17 years with many makes of cars, told me it showed up a new fault code and it had something to do with the new sensor needing to be set up with the car. The garage in question have never let me down and I trust them 100%, and they have always sorted warning lights in the past. Even the Skoda Dealer said it would have to go on their system to ensure it was setup correctly, funny how each time it goes on the VW diagnostics and things are reset the problem is fixed once the part has been replaced. So far the EGR Valve the Steering Angle Sensor, The cleaning of the Throttle Body and now the Rear Oxygen Sensor, If the light comes back on then I will of course let you know then you can advise me what to do next many thanks for all the comments

Hi

Thanks for that info just have a couple of questions how do you reset the electric windows and how do you reset the central locking. And does it effect the way the car unlocks as one press on my just unlocks the drivers door, and a second press unlocks all the doors. I also have the remote key with the boot unlock button and they all work many thanks. Will find out by tomorrow if the bloody light is going to come back on, great little car just that annoying Engine Light keeps coming back on.

Should say how to reset stuff in the manual eg if you remove the battery....you have to lock the doors with the key in the drivers doors and turn the key one way (one way will wind windows up, the other way winds them down) we want up!! then hold key in this position for 5 secs..that resets the windows. then to reset remote..what i do is put key in ignition and turn on (but not engine) then turn off after 5secs, then lock car with remote.
