Fog Light Fiasco

Featured Replies

I have been ringing round the dealers for a price for front fogs for my Octavia 1.6 mpi SE, OK your going to say why didnt you spec fogs when ordering but I bought the car ex-stock as I didnt want to wait.

One dealer parts guy said it would be in the region of £4K YES £4,000 to retrofit! Just been onto another who said it would be nearer £1K (bargain eh) as I would need Fog lights £52 each, Control module £299, Switch £60 + the wiring then 8 hours labour!! Do they have to dismantle the whole car?

I just prefer the look of the car with fogs and am prepared to fit them as duds if nessesary/possible. Anyone have any ideas where the parts/kit could be sourced as the dealers are not much help with this.

Seriously mate, for the 2% of days that you would use them, save your cash. I know that it's not what you want to hear but just my opinion.

As I already said, I'm not bothered about using them (although if affordable I would rather have working fogs with DRL's). I just prefer the look of the car with them, its purely cosmetic - horses for courses etc.

Another dealer says - £43.25 for each light, £5 or so for fog light bracket?, £140 wiring Loom & £50 Switch (all +VAT) no mention of control module? hmmmm who's right?

Anyway push comes to shove I'll just get the lights for now with or without brackets? and fit as duds and over time see if the other bits become available from a breaker.

Does anyone know how the blank grilles in the bumper are removed?

If they are anything like the grilles on my old Fabia vRS, they should just clip in, lever out at the inner side and the outer part just hinges.

If they want crazy money to fit working units then you could buy the spotlights and then just route a cable to the bottom of the dash and have a small hidden push button switch and with simple enough wiring would have working fogs without the cost of having to tap into the loom etc. Just a suggestion

the problem is there is no kit available to retro fit and the chances of someone knowing whats required is minimal, most people who want fogs would order them with the car or they buy a second hand car with them on, fair point you didnt want to wait but there just isnt a major market for retro fitting such things

in my experience, dealer quoting 8 hours labour is code for "we really don't want to do this work"!

rather than a dealer, why not have a chat with your local bodyshop - they are probably more used to dismatling the front bumper on cars like this? - for a main dealer, most of their work is mechanical /service related which is probably why they're not keen to take it on.

just a thought.

oh, and the other obvious suggestion - try to find a dismantler/breaker/scrappie with the bits you need? have you checked ebay? what you really need is someone upgrading an elegance or l&k to vrs looks who may be selling the whole lot..

It's only going to be a set of grill and spots to retro fit them. Have a look at some pics on here of the models with them fitted and then either look for part numbers or check for octavia breaking on eBay and plenty on there. Plenty of people add spots to their car it's just most octys have them.

i work for a skoda parts department and have only ever had 1 enquiry for retro fitting front fogs in the last 3 years. as for what is required????? i'd guess at the fogs, grilles, loom and dash switch. no idea on the module. easiest way to do it is get a registration of one with fogs and price the bits off that one

Looked on ebay and all the breaking octavias are older models, newest I can find is 58 plate which is pre FL I think.
