Does our Superb 6-speed DSG have launch control function?

Does our Superb 6-speed DSG have launch control function? If so, how do you use it?

Cheers,

I believe it does, but I wouldnt use it if you would like your clutch and warranty to survive. I believe its use is recorded in the ECU, and permanent just like the "Maximum engine revs exceeded warranty void" one.

I thought only the V6 did? I may be wrong though.

Stupid idea anyway, why would anyone want to stress a gearbox like that anyway, expect a flashing gear selector on the dash if you do.

Can't agree with you more, I mean if this is gonna ruin the gearbox or warranty I guess no point of risking it. But, I think if such function was built in originally, does this suppose to be workable for the gearbox? I think there may be something wrong with the design of the gearbox in the first place, so that it is not so reliable. Espeically in my part of the world, there has been numerous DSG problems and we even have an unofficial forum created just for the purposes for people have DSG problems to report and share thoughts.

Cheers,

Launch control!

You, did not mention that at the handover

Thank I will runt in first :nerd:

It isn't especially useful as it pulls away quick enough anyway, but if you want to give it a go a couple of times I'm sure it can't hurt the gearbox that much otherwise they wouldn't include the feature in the system.

From memory you select, Sport mode on the gearbox, hold the ESP-off button for 3 seconds, put your left foot on the brake, floor the throttle, and then when you're ready to go just take your foot of the brake and it will drop the clutch in at about 4,500rpm and it really will launch off the line. How much faster it is then normal I don't know but quite an entertaining experiment.

I would do at least 1,000 miles first and only attempt it when everything on the car has warmed up properly.

Its OK James, I was just kidding  , I have not used full throttle or exceeded 3k rpm yet and still this thing leaps away from the lights, god help me when its run in.

Yep, that's it. Sport, ESP off, left-foot brake, throttle to floor. Once revs stabilise, let go of the brake. Never tried it :)

And James will rebuild it for you too :giggle:

Seriously though... I had heard of the procedure which James describes, but I couldn't to get it to work in the last DSG equipped vehicle I was in :|

Hop it wasn't mine, seriously though, work it flat out expect it to fail early, can't see the point myself, sport mode and welly pedal, the upchange does all those peasents in a manual car anyway.

I'm sure it's only the V6 Superb as in any other DSG Skoda you'd just end up with lots of wheelspin, I did try it in a Fabia vRS and that doesn't have it nor does it actually need it just putting the gearbox into Sport and flooring the throttle and letting the ESP sort it out is PLENTY fast enough.

Too true on the Fabia, if it did have launch control it would be completely pointless anyway, unless the aim of the game was to leave all your tread on the road

Wouldn't it do the same in the V6?

Although I'm guessing a Superb would do the same, would it?

The 3.6 Superb has got four wheel drive so it just dumps all the power and with no fuss what so ever just launches off the line like a enraged weasel.

And you would know wouldn't you :giggle:

I bet you don't do it when the DP is about though do you James ;)

No, no, no....

The only 3.6 I've ever actually driven properly was the one I borrowed from SkodaUK.

I wish we did have a 3.6 demo car, that would be awesome. I wonder just how annoyed Jeff Allam would be if one just appeared in the showroom in about 4 months time. In Mocca with Ivory, with lots of options....

Hmm....

Was that the 3.6 we all experienced a couple of years ago James?

Good fun- especially if it's a company/rental car.

We all like do do things we are not supposed to do.

Is it a real launch control? Or does it just control the revs?

Check this out

Launch control would allow you to press the pedal to the metal and still not rev more than choosen rev. And of course, there should be max turbo load. In the video I don't see anything of this?

Sorry to be a party cracker, but I have to ask. Why? It's a Skoda, not a Porsche, Ferrari or even a BMW. To me this option is like buying a Rolls and then discussing how many MPG:s you can get out of it... But then again thats just me. If you wanna have maximum acceleration, a BMW 1000 RR (oh yes, the bike) should be a good start.

I think it's just a case of "if it's there, how do we use it" :)

Exactly! I totally agree! I was a bit sarcastic with my questions about this "feature"... as it is NOT a real Launch Control. And I don't see why we should have it in our Superbs... BMW M3, there is a need for Launch Control, as it is a real red light spanker :)

But on the other hand, I'm a bit of a feature nerd... the more features, the better :D

Perhaps it's to tempt F1 drivers to but Skoda car's, that way they can practice while on the way to the track as well. ;)
