As title, is it a cable or hydraulic clutch?

The first time you put it into second gear (from cold) it is very notchy and sometimes just nicks the gear, but once it has done a mile or so it is fine.

Anyone else have any issues from cold?

No problems after six months and 10,000 mls in the Frozen North.

No problems after 12 months, 15,000 miles and even Further towards the Frozen North!

The Clutch is Hydraulic. We did have a problem with the Master Cylinder on ours (fixed under warranty) - but it was nothing like you describe.

You need to be careful to set up your seat properly so that you can push the clutch all the way down. If you don't it can make low gear changes notchy.

The seat is set correctly and I can easily get full travel without stretching, as I say after the first mile or so it is OK, but until then it is as if the syncro is worn, this has been a problem since around 500 miles old (now just under 9K) it is easy to 'drive round' by either double de clutching or changing on the revs (so basically making the clutch redundant) but that is not the point.

I was hoping it was going to be hydraulic, so it may just need a bleed?

I've also noticed that in 2nd when it's cold.

I've seen this on a Golf before now, although it wasn't the clutch, but it was the gold oil in the gearbox. My friend added slick50 and the problem was solved... Only problem is, his golf was 15 years old, not 12 months :S

Hi,

I have the same issue with my 2009 CR 2 ltr 170bho Elegance, I took it back to where I bought in it Fife Scotland, but they were no help, deceided to try my local dealer, Newmarket in Banockburn in Stirling and they have been great.

To date

November 2010 removed gearbox and replace mesh rings and a gear, all done by hand and the guy was good, a real tradesman. The garage kept me infromed and treated my car like a child (well we all do) after repair ask me to keep an eye on it but to let it settle down over the next 3 months.

This week finally took it back for the check up as the 2nd gear was start to play up occaiosnlly and they have reset the gear linkage from the gear stick to the gear box and what a differance. Very firm each gear is not smooth as some makes, but it is now a tipical VAG gearbox that is firm.

So if I was you I would book the car in and ask the garage to check the mesh rings (they will do this by draining some oil looking for brass in the oil) and to check / re set the linkage. It will all be covered under warranty

Let us know how you get on.
