Flaking Alloys

Featured Replies

I recently bought my Octy Vrs and have noticed that I have slight flaking appearing on the alloys. I have been using alloy cleaner is this not suitable for them. They were also sent to the 'refurb' place by the dealer as part of me buying it. Can anybody advise the best course of action to a: stop them flaking more b: best way of cleaning them c: is alloy cleaner suitable for them. Anyones advice is very welcome and appreciated as Im not ashamed to admit I know very little about anything auto, but want to keep my car looking good.

Is there any way of making good the damage by flaking without sending them to a specialist and paying a fortune??

I always use wonder wheels once a month and a coat of wax every 2 or 3 months to look after them. it brings them up fantastic. you will get as many people swearing by one product as you will condemning it !! its horses for courses really. just gotta see what works for you. with regards to repairs there are loads of places out there that will come to you. the going rate for a complete wheel refurb is about

Unfortunately, it sounds like they did not do a good job of the refurb and the paint is flaking off.

Sounds like the wheels werent treated or cleaned properly prior to the paint being redone when they where refurbished, so the paint had nothing to stick to.

When I had my Senator's alloys refurbished, the final finish was powder baked on and was better than when new.

Is your car red by any chance?

No Black, you have me baffled? Should I challenge my dealer for the job they have done and should I be able to use alloy cleaner with my Vrs alloys? They are due back to them as the spare, when fortunately, I asked them to have a look, was in a right state so this week are going back to refurbers. Advice needed!!

are you thinking of the red octy that was playing in the gravel at silverstone?

Sounds like they did a quick once over on the wheels, if it flakes it means its not bonding to the surface behind so guesss they were not properly prepared. I would also try & get a second opinion, look up wheel refurbers in your areas local yellow pages & go & have a chat, just make sure its not the same company the garage used.

Some wheel cleaners are "aggressive" but they would attack the finish from the surface in, not cause it to flake.

Should have bloody known it was too good. Took my Octy in on Monday to have alloys done. As I got there Paul Dyson said he was leaving today and wouldnt be there when I picked car up. Phoned later nobody knew anything about it, when they finally phoned and said it was ready to pick up, alloys, what a **** job. Just been spray painted, still flaking. Does anybody know how much it will cost to get a GOOD job done on my alloys, cant be bothered to go back, feel that now Paul who sold me the car has gone, (51 plate ) it is in nobodys interest to get the job done properly, that was reaffirmed when he told me that the other salesman questioned him why he was doing it for me, he wouldnt bother. I just hope that now they have shut Burnley Horners and what seems major changes at Bury this looks like the end of what was excellent customer service and backup. Especially for those that buy a second hand car from them.

One of lads at work said that there was a place in Liverpool that would do them for

Sweeney and Sherlock would be my preferred choice' date=' or a company offering a similar service.[/quote']

Had my old alloys done by wicked-wheels, very good service. Came out to my house and refurbed my wheels.

They'll also repaint them in any colour. I'd get them done dark if I were you, saves cleaning them :D

It seems at mo that WW are the most expensive, considering I have just paid 9 grand for my car, cant see my wife wanting to spend another 240 squids on getting 'fresh ' wheels, 2 kids and all that, to be honest if I was spending that on my ca i would probably look at putting it towards a remap.

As a non petrol head seems most logical, but then again wife will be mad if I spend
