Dream turns into nightmare

Featured Replies

This is a long story but here goes. Ordered Superb Estate CR170 4x4 in Rosso Brunello in middle of March and given delivery date of June 30th, dealer confirming that it would be included in present Uk allocation for that engine & transmission. Ordered included foc 'Luna' alloys. No contact from dealer for several weeks, when phoned in April said he did not yet have build date. I learned on this forum about MY12 changes which included deletion of 'Luna' wheel option. Phoned dealer who told me he knew nothing about MY12 changes. I contacted Skoda customer services who said that my order was not accepted by factory because of wheel choice and that dealer should have told me this. Back to dealer who accepted I was correct and said he would amend order to new foc option of 'Luxon' alloys. Now found out that dealer cancelled first order and submitted new one, delivery date now September and Rosso Brunello not available. Tried to amend order to one of new MY12 paint colours but told that petrol Blue cannot be ordered before w26, Regency Green w34 and Muscavado w42. Now deciding whether to cancel order and move to a manufacturer that cares about its potential customers.

If anyone in Briskoda land knows of a CR170 4x4 esate in Rosso Brunello, new or used, that is available please PM me. Small reward available!

Hi Chris,

3.5 months lead time for a 4x4 Superb Estate is a tad optimistic apart from maybe a 3.6 V6.

Current lead times are circa 6 months for a Superb TDi 4x4 170CR.

They are correct Rosso Brunello is going which is a shame as it is a nice colour. The new Luxon wheels are very nice though but obviously you need to see them.

As a possible solution, have you considered a 1.8TSi 4x4?

Not only will you save many thousands of pounds over the TDi model, it isn't as bad on fuel as you may think plus it does drive very much like a diesel (250Nm from just 1,500rpm) unless you are doing a LOT of miles per year it will take you a long time to get any financial benefit from the diesel engine.

A fresh 1.8TSi 4x4 Estate order should be here in 4 months.

I wouldnt be too hard on Skoda in general as it sounds like this is the fault of the dealership, perhaps using a different dealer may be in order. Although I have to agree with James on the TSI engine, it would pay you to drop the diesel unless as he said your milage is really high :)

Thanks to James & LewJo for their responses. My main complaint is against my dealer but I do think Skoda's system of allocation and build dates is arbitary. A friend told me about his order which was placed in December 2010 and he is now on his 3rd build date, now week 29! Skoda obviously has more orders than capacity, so why does it create the potential for even more orders with its latest 5% VAT marketing campaign? My other grouse with Skoda is that they have withdrawn 3 paint options but a customer cannot yet order any of the 'new' colours. Surely the new paint options should be available to order from the MY date change.

I understand James's & LewJo's comments on the 1.8TSI option. I tow a fairly large caravan and the extra torque of the diesel is useful when towing. Also the kerbweight of the 1.8TSI is lower than the 2.0CR 170 diesel and falls just outside the recommended 85% weight ratio for towing.

Chris

I'd assume with the paint it's because previous order's still need to be built and then the paint booth needs fully cleansing so there is no colour contamination between 11 colours and new 12 one's.

What about the new 2.0TSi (211PS with 280Nm) although it is 2WD and only available with DSG (Auto).... I imagine that weighs a fraction more than the 1.8TSi.

Would a 170CR 4x4 hatchback be okay? Silver with black leather?

There is a very low mileage on on eBay, but not Rosso Brunello or 4x4:

2010/60 Skoda Superb 2.0 TDI CR 170 Elegance Estate Mileage 3289

Extras over Std spec. Metallic Paint, Heated Front Seats. Westfalia Tow Bar with 13 pin connector Wiring system for rear view Camera on caravan.Version 7 Navigation Disc Spare Wheel (Steel)/Tools Atera Roof Bars Skoda Black rubber floor mats The camera system has been fitted so that when towing the camera fitted on the rear of our caravan can display a picture on the navigation display live when driving. Apart from testing the system the car has never towed.

Reason for SaleI am shortly to have an operation on my back & have been advised if possible to change the car for an automatic where you step-up to get in rather down.Apart from one minute stone chip on the bonnet the car is immaculate.

My Superb took six months and had three diffrernt build weeks, the last was 4 weeks aerlier than the original build week. My wifes Octavia which we collected last Saturday took 5 weeks and only had the one build week.
