Greenline2 or something else

Featured Replies

Hi all,

Ok - so I've gone and fallen in love with this darned car! I think it's the Tonka-toy looks and the fact that previously owned Skoda's have been built like battleships.

The thing is I can't decide which to go for. Whatever I get, I'm looking at an Elegance spec but the choice of engine is weighing heavily! My typical driving pattern is fairly short commutes (20 miles per day) with the odd long motorway journey. This is a private purchase and I'm looking to keep it for as long as possible (5-6 years) so I'm not really considering a petrol equivalent. I appreciate that a petrol may work out cheaper (and the DPF issues on short journeys) but I think I'd prefer a diesel.

Is the 105hp Greenline much different performance-wise to the 110hp 2wd version? I'm drawn to the Greenline primarily because of the CO2 emissions and the much lower MPG figures. Are these MPG figures accurate for the Greenline? Has anyone test driven both the Greenline and a 110/140hp and what were their conclusions? On paper, there doesn't seem to be much difference but some reviews (notably What Car and a couple of others) seem to indicate that the Greenline is less "fun" (whatever that means).

Any assistance would be appreciated. I'm based in Yorkshire but no dealers seem to have Greenlines available for test driving.

Thanks very much for any info on the SM conundrum!

Steve

Cannot help with the Greenline other than to say I think it may suit your needs perfectly. Things to note however are lower ride hight and smaller wheels and tyres, plus reduced option availability.

My TDI 110 4x4 although just over a week on the road and 700 miles done has already given me fill to fill figures of 44.4 and 45.5 mpg and regularly the Maxidot computer is registering 47 to 55 mpg :)

I've got the Greenline SE and love it to bits, comes with the Start/Stop function which is fantastic at lights etc on the commute, every little helps boost the MPG. Just look at my current MPG figures on my signiture to see how well its currently doing, and this is with only 1600 miles on the clock, with a lot more loosening up in the engine to go. Any questions just ask.

You do not need to worry about the DPF on the 20 mile commutes. My daily "commute" into town is only 3 miles and with the 170 in 30,000 miles there has been no DPF issues at all.

The official mileage figures are only a relative indication, tested under static and closely controlled conditions - not actual driving. You should expect to do a little worse than that in real life, or a little better if you are very deliberate about driving economically.

I get around 45 mpg in normal driving, but can get well over 50 mpg on a 30 mile round trip to a larger town on typical A road if I really pay attention.

Thanks chaps.

Another dumb question, but if I was quoted week 37 for the supply of a Yeti, is it week 37 as in mid September? Do the build weeks run from Jan 01 (week1) to December 31 (week52)?

Cheers - much appreciated. Did you find the reduced ride height had any detrimental effect on the ride quality? I note that a number of people on here prefer the ride from the smaller 16" tyres. Personally, I think the larger 17s look ok - but I'd prefer the 16s as they're somewhat cheaper to replace.

Hi,

yes WK37 is week beginning 12th September if I've done my quick maths correctly.

Good stuff. Is there an approximate length of time from posted build week to actually getting the thing to the dealership or does this vary from dealer to dealer? Also (and I'm really sorry to bombard everyone with questions) has anyone purchased anything using Autoebid at all? They are quoting upwards of a £3k saving on a Yeti GL2 Elegance - which seems a pretty good deal given the fact that these vehicles are in constraint....

Thanks again.

Hi,

provisional build weeks can change and move about, mine had at least five changes and a short period on no allocation at all. Build tends only to be confirmed sometime in the two week period leading up to the actual build week.

Again mine took 25 weeks from order to collection, which very much depends on the actual spec you've ordered. Can even find two identical orders placed at the same time can be built weeks apart, no rime or reason for it other than component availability and production allocation per country I suppose.

Cannot help though with the internet broker thing, used them in the past but experience wasn't great hence using the first rate service provided by James down at Allams.

Cheers - very much appreciate any input with this.

I'll keep the forum posted once I get the order committed.

For info, I'm looking at:

Greenline 2 Elegance

-Silver Roof Rails

-Park Assist

-Off Road Pack

-Metallic (Probably Aqua Blue) Paint

-Mats

-Tyre Pressure Monitor

I was going to order the electric seat adjustment with eletric folding mirrors until I looked on here! Glad I saved £525 but would have liked lecky mirrors!

Went from a Fabia to the Yeti Greenline and find the ride much smoother and more comfortable.

Not sure I like the silver roof rails, seen them on a Yeti at the deelers and thought they had forgotten to take the proctective film off the car, the end sections are still the black ones so in my opinion it looks a bit odd.

Cheers - thats really good to know about the ride quality. I'll take a look at the silver rails. Not completely decided on the final spec yet but it is really useful to get other people's opinions as well. Thanks again.

Hi Steve,

I've got a Greenline Elegance that I am waiting to take delivery of. Bit of a serious trek but you are welcome to drive it if you would like?

I'm in Epsom, Surrey.

Thanks James. Going to test a 110 2wd this weekend to get a rough idea of performance. If that goes well (no pun!) then I'll probably just take a punt on the Greenline.

Cheers though...

After test driving a 110 4x4, we've now had a radical change of direction away from the Greenline and we're going for a 170 4x4 Elegance!

Nowhere near Greenline efficiency, but I like the idea of a part time 4x4, GTI performance, reasonable fuel economy, estate car and (if I spec it) a sunroof that'll give me almost a convertible feel - shouldn't need to but another car ever again.... well that's how I'm selling it to the missus anyway!

Overall, is there a big difference in performance between the 140 4x4 and the 170?

Cheers for any input. ;)

lol, bit of a change in your initial choice.

I would also like to know peoples views between the performance difference of the 140 to the 170.

Mark

Thats a bit of a change of mind! but the 170 is very nice to drive. Its a bit quick when you're in the mood but suprisingly economical when just pottering along.

Check out the waiting time. I think its the longest of any Yeti model (6 months+).

Andy

That was/is my hope too

CR140 + remap = faster than a CR170 emoticon-0140-rofl.gif

CR110 2WD + remap = about as fast as a CR170emoticon-0136-giggle.gif

Thanks all. That pretty much does it I think.

I appreciate I'm going to have to wait for the vehicle but you can't rush perfection  When you say 6 months + do you have any idea as to the current situation? I'm probably going to buy through Autoebid (quoted £3.5k discount) and as it's a private purchase, want the best price possible.

The broker should put you in touch with the supplying dealer, who will be able to give you up to date info.

Andy

170CR takes AGES to come through, you should be getting quoted 9 months for delivery. Worth it though!

Once again, thanks to all that helped me with this. Finally decided not to go for the Greenline but opted for an Elegance 170 4x4 with some toys! Never been brilliant at waiting for stuff but now I guess the 6 months + will drag!

Got to recommend Autoebid for their efforts and ultimately Autofinders for coming up with a pretty good deal.

Now, where are those Yeti photos again??!!
