Paint / Bodywork

Featured Replies

I'm a new Skoda owner on my 3rd week of owning a 10 plate Octavia Elegance 1.6 CR. I love everything about this car but during its first wash I noticed a small raised area / bump / crease on the roof which is directly above the rear passenger interior light. I am disappointed that I missed this blemish before the purchase and have been unhappy about the dealers response, which was an instant "Skoda warranty wont cover this!!!" This seems reasonably clear that the issue has not been caused by a push from inside the car. I'm wondering if anyone has any advice?

Cheers

its got nothing to do with skoda. pics? if its that bad then reject the car. write a letter and return with the keys asap. how did u pay?

I paid part exchange and cash. I've tried to take a pic of the mark, but this is difficult due to the colour and sunlight on the roof. It's one of those things best seen with the naked eye.

I'm not sure it's bad enough to reject. However, had I have spotted it I wouldn't have bought it.

I would expect the dealer to offer a compromise if they truly thought you would reject the car? I agree it's not a warranty issue so nothing to do with Skoda. It is a realtionship between you and the dealer under the Sales of Goods Act and I think you have very much the upper hand on that one.

Rumour has it that even brand new cars sometimes have imperfections from delivery etc., little dents or scuffs, dealers use those "smart repair" companies to remove them if possible, that is assuming they notice them. Only guessing without seeing exactly what you mean but if the paint isn't damaged the dealer should offer you a smart dent repair to remedy the imperfection.... if they had noticed it the chances are they would have fixed it and you would never have known... just a suggestion

Thanks for the responses.I took the car to another Skoda approved bodyshop who told me that this seemed to have been caused by someone pushing upwards into the roof above the interior light fitting. There's certainly no evidence of the fitting or roof lining being tampered with and I can understand why there's a reluctance to consider the issue as anything could have happened to the car in its first year of ownership. They were also advised me to speak to the dealer to try and resolve with a potential smart repair.

Its more than a rumour, a significant number of brand new cars have panels resprayed or even replaced due to damage caused between factory and dealer. Usually any extra delay between your car beeing built and delivered to the dealer is because of damage. The buyer is never informed.
