Maxidot freezes on audio and navigation until Columbus switched off.

Featured Replies

Sorry, it's another Columbus / Firmware question.

I've fitted a 3T0035680A 2724 firmware Columbus to a 57 reg Octavia with Maxidot but no multi function steering wheel. It has been coded in and I get MFD, Audio, Navigation and Settings on my maxidot. If I go into navigation I get the compass and street names working fine, also get direction arrows if a postcode is in. The button on the wiper stalk does nothing though and I then cannot get back out of navigation unless I switch off the Columbus. Same for audio, it will display radio station or mp3 file name but the button does nothing and it is locked onto that till I switch off the head unit. After switching off then on again it goes back to the normal menu till I select one of the 4 again. I'm not sure what functions I should get with the end button but I definitely cant get back out of either of them. I'm not hugely bothered as getting the direction arrows was the main thing I wanted.

Just wondering if anyone has the same or if anyone has tried the Josi 27xx fix for Octavia A5 pre FL. Would that change the way the maxidot behaves and does it need to go onto a modified firmware. The 2724 was what was on the Columbus when it was new. I'm a bit nervous about starting to change firmwares so thought I'd ask.

Oh yeah, I have an L version gateway. It seems fine but again I'm nervous of going to a later firmware.

Thanks!

I have a similar problem with my Mk6 Golf MFSW.

So when you are in the audio or Navi the rocker switch doesn't bring the menu up when you press and hold the up button?

Yes, that's exactly it. I get all the navigation information updating but like you say the rocker switch does nothing. Switching off the head unit clears it. The other menus are fine, just audio and navigation.

I had the same problem, used one of Josis' fixes from here. Works well now

2760 fix for Skoda Octavia A5 - it will update gateway table only in order to get working MFSW/Maxidot when Skoda Columbus is installed in pre-facelift Octavia A5 or any VW car. Apply it after updating to any of 26xx/27xx/1300 firmwares.

That sounds good. Did you use it on top of a modified firmware though or was it with a standard one? I'm not sure if the fix would work like that or if I have to put a new firmware on first then apply the fix.

Not sure what firmware was in the Columbus (same part number as yours) except it was version 2764. Don't know what the 'patch' did but the menus work as a result.

I decided to go for it and installed the Fix for Octavia A5 file onto the Columbus. It went on smoothly and reported successful update at the end then restarted itself. I can still get into Audio or Navigation on the maxidot but once into eithr of them it has stayed the same. The wiper stalk control does nothing and it is stuck on that display until I switch the head unit off. The compass, street names and directions seem to display fine but if I want back out it needs switched off then on again.

I have had a same problem with my 2005 Octavia II, the Columbus unit I bought had 27xx software. The guy who installed the unit, downgraded to 268x and works fine. The only difference I saw was a bit slower start up with the 2680.

Thanks, that might be worth a try. I suppose I can always upgrade back to 2724 if it makes no difference.

Thought I'd try going up first rather than downgrading straight away. I found a FW2760_PreFL_Octavia firmware so decided to go for it hoping any Octavia adjustments were all taken care off. It installed and now the maxidot will show audio and navigation on the list, I can select either of them and the wiper stalk button now gets me back to the main menu again so thats what I was after.

The wiper stalk buttons still don't do anything within audio or navigation but I'm not sure if they were ever meant to or not. I wondered if it would have done volume or skip tracks in audio.

If any Octavia owners have the Columbus with maxidot but without a multi function steering wheel I'd be interested to know? thanks

Which exact firmware was that u installed? I am curious cause I would try to go up with mine unit also.

The wiper stalk buttons just only do enter/exit in those menus nothing more.

The link for the actual download is- www.megaupload.com/?d=L0XJVKCZ

I can't find the exact forum entry it was posted in again. It might have been the vwnavi site.

My gps is fine with it. The first time it powered up after the upgrade it just took a minute to get to the right place on the map.

Has someone yet coded the car correctly with VCDS to say it has navigation fitted, the symptoms you describe above are exactly what my retrofit octavia one did until the main cars gateway was coded correctly, then the rocker switch worked perfectly.

CAN Gateway - Controller 19

This controller uses Long Coding, recoding should be carried out using the Long Coding Helper built into VAG-COM. Select Byte 3 and put a tick in Bit 3 to enable Controller 37 Navigation.

Working mine also, just took couple minutes for the gps to find itself. I was in a garage yesterday night when i did the upgrade and my driveway is blocekd by my house and big trees so gps signal is not that great there. Though this morning when i went to grab some breakfast the car found itself while it parked in front of the groceire store.

Anyway, thanks for the firmwave:) The only diff so far i have noticed it is the much faster boot up time.

It has been coded, somebody with a vag com cable helped me out and did it. Before coding there was nothing at all in the maxi dot menu for the stereo, just mfd and settings. As soon as he ticked the navigation box and we reset the Columbus the audio and navigation options came up on the maxi dot menu. It was done using the long code helper I think.

Does your rocker switch actually change anything when you are in audio or navigation? At least now I can get in and out of them and back to the main menu without having to switch the Columbus off and on but. If it is meant to do other functions though I'm not really sure what else I could try.

it should do, when in audio it should alter up and down the track being listened to if on media, or change the radio presets on radio. it should also display the track / station info on the maxidot. Same should happen in navigation display navigating or not.

I'm not getting any of that when trying the rocker switch, all it does is get me back out to the main menu. I do get the track names and radio stations on the display while in audio and in navigation I get the compass reading and street names when not navigating and the directions when going to a destination. If I'm in mfd I get the compass reading in the top left and the switch goes through all the mpg and distance pages.

Strange, I wonder if it's a firmware thing, gateway version or coding issue. The Columbus is from a superb so maybe I'll never get 100% integration with the maxi dot controls.

I still think you need MFSW for that and cant do with the rocker switch.

I have exactly the same issue - I've got a 3T0 model (2010) with f/w 3800 and everything works fine other than getting out of navigation/radio once you've gone into it in MFD; like you, I have to switch the Columbus off in order to do so.

Do these modified f/w versions work OK with maps 7.1? I've got 7.1 installed and I wouldn't like to goose it by installing a lower f/w.

Get the modified 2760 fw, maps should be ok with it, if not then get V7 (V7 and 7.1 are the same). There is a GPS forum/website whwere you can get more info about maps, will post the link later, dont have the bookmark on my work pc.
