Bulbs

Featured Replies

One of my rear brake lights is noticeably brighter than the other one. Is one bulb likely to be a higher wattage? Or is the duller bulb on the way out? Does anyone know what the wattages should be for each of the bulbs?

Thanks!

Rear brake light should be the same, obviously ones gone and been replaced with a different type?? Should be 21w bayonet with a big balloon type glass envelope, not the small hemispere glass envelope type!!! B) Unless of course you have left the rear foglight on???? as it is the bulb on the right hand side tail light (if you are getting the tail lights mixed up with the brake lights that is) (21/4w dual filament bulb) :giggle:

Is the rear light bulb a duel filament bulb for combined rear lights and brake lights? If so you need to take the bulb out turn it through 180° then reinsert it. As it is now the current is running through the brake light filament, of course it should only do that when the brakes are applied.

Edit - yes the tail/brake light is a duel filament bulb. As I said take it out and turn it around. This is a very common mistake.

Not on a MKI Fabia......the only dual filament is one tail light which also has the rear fog light.....the stop light is a seperate bulb further up in the light cluster!! B)

EDIT

Just double checked mine....yes I was right....the bottom bulb in the rear light cluster is the tail light with the drivers side being dual filament 21/4w for fog as well. The top bulb in both is the stop/brake light! B)

Right, I've just checked the brake bulbs on both sides, I had someone else depress the brake pedal with the engine off (and rear fog light was off). Both brake lights on my vehicle are dual filament, both filaments light up when the brake pedal is depressed, on the dim side, only 1 filament was lighting up, so I'm assuming that 1 of the filaments must have gone (it is visibly broken).

Does this bulb sound normal for the fabia estate then? Looking at halfords online bulb selector it is the dual filament bulb that is suggested as a brake bulb for my vehicle so I don't understand why everyone else thinks single filament is what I should have. Where is the best place to get bulbs from? Dealers? Halfords? ASDA etc?

Thanks!

The brake lights are single filament! Top of the cluster

Op has an estate so may differ?

What year of car???

As this and all the info (my OEM Skoda handbook and Haynes all say the same bulbs as I've previously stated...unless you've had the wrong bulbs in???? B)

EDIT!!!!!

Just had another look at Halfrauds site...seems like on the later 2006+ cars that they are stating dual filament 21/4w bulbs for the tail only which is mad!!! If I were you I'd get someone to cycle through all the lighting on the car and there should only be two functions from one bulb (drivers side tail light also does rear fog). The only reason for a dual filament of 21/4w is for this purpose.....unless Skoda altered the holder to make both filaments come one at the same time for one function only...this would make the bulb 4w brighter!!! Ask Skoda dealer and report back!!! B)
