How long does it take to get here ? Please share

Featured Replies

I hope to use this thread for you soon to be new owners to share your pain with us all. The wait from built to dealer seems to take forever. The idea is we talk about when our cars were built & discuss where our cars could be here & when we think we will get hold of them. If anyone has any useful links or advise from previously suffering then please offer advise (apart from just be patient).

I stole this useful info from a previous link but thought it might be of use to some of you.

The car will be built & despatched from the factory one day during the build week.

It will go by land, to Germany (Emden) to the port of exit. It can sit at Emden for upto 2 weeks.

Once it is built into a ship manifest & gets onto the boat, it will be 2 days on the water.

Cars come into port, when unloaded it goes into a holding compound. It will then be picked up on the transport companies computer system & it will get a transport order.

When they have enough cars to fill a transporter bound for Leeds, we will get a dealer advice note, letting us know that the car is on it's way here.

Again, it can stay at port for up to 2 weeks, but generally they don't take that long.

Once the car arrives here - we book it into our service department for a pre-delivery inspection & number plates fitting. Our service department require 5 working days notice to prepare a car for me, but don't always take this long.

Sorry its a long one but you get the idea..

Mine got built end of last week, just called SUK (as Fri PM seems the best time to get an update) & according to them its in Emden. Some poeple seem to get lucky & get theirs in 10 days others seem to play the painful waiting game.

Anyone got any suggestion on time from their own experience? I am waiting for mine to go to a dealer in Southampton

Well I ordered mine (2.0CR L&K Estate) on 7th Feb, it was built week 15 (11th April) and arrived with the dealer today (13th May) and will be delivered to me next Friday.

So just under 4 weeks from factory to dealer, depending on how early in the week it was built.

Have to say i'm quite surprised how quickly it's arrived, given some of the horror stories I've heard!

I ordered my Scout (2.0 CR) on Sept 23rd, it was built sometime during week 17, arrived at the dealer on May 10th (Tuesday) and I am picking it up tomorrow morning. Finally..

i might have misunderstood but i think the boats take a day from emden to port of tyne. i checked ships at portoftyne online,

there is also marinetraffic.com to track the ships from emden and arrivals at the port your car will arrive at.

That was a long wait buddy I ordered a month or 6 weeks after you and got my CR in mid March off dealer I feel guilty now! Enjoy the collection and make sure you get some diesel in the tank (unlike me) and it set to variable servicing (unlike me) both of these cheap skate oversites now rectified.

From being built to getting it off dealers took me 3 weeks bang on plus a few days to suit me for time off work on top.

I'll dive into it over the weekend, it's only the number of pages that put me off slightly. Nothing a brew & few hob nobs cant sort out ! Thanks for the link.

Hows your car then, I ask as ive got the same model/colour due ? Any tips for me ? Variable servicing what do you mean by this, is it a maxidot option or dealer specific ?

6 month wait for me

 I ordered my Race Blue Tsi vrs at the end of March and its on the boat and the Dealer has given me a collection date of 22nd of May. 7 weeks from order to collection ot bad under current circumstances. can't wait to get my new toy.

I spoke to my dealer yesterday and I should get mine either next weekend or the weekend afterwards.

I am waiting on the DVLA to do the transfer of my reg number.

The dealer said that anyone ordering a DSG car will now have to wait around 6 months due to a shortage of them.

I think that I just ordered mine in time as my order was placed at the end of February.

I ordered mine (1.2 TSI Elegance) in mid January. Still waiting for it to get here (Middle-East).

I don't know what the build week is, but I know it still hasn't arrived at our local port.

I can't understand these long waiting periods! Seems kinda funny (or sad) that in year 2011 you have to wait more than 4 months for a car to arrive.

Of course other car makers deliver much faster, but for some odd reason, Skoda like to make their clients wait :-(

Try a BMW X5 - I think they are quoting BW in Feb 2012!!!

Don't think any manufacturers are stockpiling these days so everything built to order.

In response to the OP. Once my BW arrived the car was at Emden within the week on Thursday. I waited a week for a boat as not so many into Sheerness. It took less than a day to get there and was on the docks Thursday awaiting transport to dealer. The car was delivered to dealer on the Monday afternoon, and I collected on the Thursday. So about 2-weeks after BW for me.

From what I can see from other threads there is no logic in the order to BW time. I ordered a DSG diesel in December and collected end of March as quoted. But some people ordering in Oct/Nov are still waiting - or have only just got them.

I still think some dealers have more influence than others, but don't know why.

Dealers just been on the phone new cars in today. Pick up next week

Ordered mine 7th December picking it up Tuesday the 24th.About time

Well the wait is almost over, dealer called to say should be in Friday (will confirm tomorrow) & ready for collection Saturday. Shame i'm working until 2:30pm & then meeting my mates down the pub for the footy from 5, hardly going to get time to play on Sat :'(

When you pick a new car up what is the procedure is it a case of & this is your manual & on your way OR do they give you a few pitches on cleaning products & GAP Ins. etc... Never bought a Skoda before & not sure how it works. :p

Orded mine on the 24th april just got a provisional build date of week 34. Vrs estate cr 170 manual with silver roof rails, parking sensors, maxidot and sunset glass. So september hopefully to receive it! fingers crossed.

Variable servicing what do you mean by this, is it a maxidot option or dealer specific ?

The car should be set at the factory for variable servicing, you'll know by looking at the sticker by the spare wheel in the boot. If one of the codes (near the bottom left corner IIRC) reads QG1 then the car is set to variable. Basically you don't have a fixed time and distance i.e. 10,000 miles or 1 year for the service to be done. The car has sensors to detect things like oil quality and will ask for a service at any time up to 2 years or 18,000 miles from the last service. If you want you can get the dealer to change this to fixed time and distance servicing, i.e. 10,000 miles or 1 year at any time, all they have to do is plug in their computer to change it during the PDI or during a service.

A victim of their own success I'm afraid. Each country has an annual allocation of cars and Skoda has now got a reputation of good quality at a reasonable price, therefore demand has shot up and supply can't keep up at the moment.

try 45 days at sea!!!

7 wks, that's how long it takes for the ship to trek south across the globe, to reach down under!!!

order date to build date - 12 wks

build date to ship load date - 2 wks

ship load date to ship unload date - 7 wks

ship unload date to me given keys - 2 wks

grand total of 23 wks in waiting!!!

in hindsight, 5 months ain't bad compared to some of the horrid wait times i've heard from others!!!
