Is there any news on when the Yeti 103TDI will get the 7spd DSG currently available in the Tiguan ?

Sounds like it might be for your market only.

Fred

Is it a 1.6CR or 2.0CR engine?

103kw should be a 140 DSG. VW has had a 7 speed DSG for ages now vs the Yeti's older 6 speed unit. Just check out the Tiguan website. I think this person is asking when that combination will make it to Škoda.

81kw = 110hp

103kw = 140hp

125kw = 170hp

I thought the DSG was auto only...............or can it be manual too???? emoticon-0114-dull.gif

I thought the DSG is based on a manual box?

Ivor has a 6 speed DSG gearbox in an auto emoticon-0112-wondering.gif

The DSG is a semi automatic gearbox. basically a manual gearbox with 2 clutches. As you know MacD you can drive it like a sequential manual gearbox (like all motorcycles....) but you don't have to use a clutch, just the tiptronic lever. In Elsie the Helipad's case, I just use my fingers on the steering wheel's flappy paddlesemoticon-0136-giggle.gif.

The DSG does not have a torque converter like a 'normal' auto, which is why when you take your foot off the brake, the car 'lurches' forward at about 1-2mph. That is the clutch engaging like in a manual car.

These new DSG boxes are so much better than the previous incarnation from 5 years ago and with the Hill Hold, it performs almost like a 'normal' auto now, but more efficiently.

In 7250 miles I have not been 'caught out' like I was in the old DSG gearbox approaching junctions, thinking I was going to stop, but then deciding it is clear to go. The old 'box changed to 1st, but this one hangs on to 2nd.

I was told that 7-speed DSG using dry clutches,so torque limit is 250 Nm,while 6-speed DSG gearbox using wet clutches that can bear much high torque(>320Nm?).

140bhp(103kw)TDI engines yield a max output of 280Nm ,so need a 6speed DSG.

Is this correct?

Erm hence VW bringing out a new 7 speed one that CAN take the torque and this thread being about when Skoda will finally get the new fandangled top spec DSG.

I've read in another thread that the 7 speed DSG coupled with the 103kw engine in the Tiguan is a modified wet cluth ie it's not the dry clutch now capable of handling higher torque

Oohh. The plot thickens. I bet TP knows the answer to this! I clearly don't!

The VAG group have several DSG boxes.

The 6 speed in our diesel Yeti with the wet clutches approx 440Nm

the 7 speed in the 1.2 petrol with dry clutches, with limited torque output. (280Nm?)

A new 7 speed wet clutch unit as used in the Tiguan to cope with the higher torque of the diesel engines and the 2.0 TSI engines....(440+?)

Yes, I was asking when the combination would make it to Skoda.

There was a recent article here in Australia about the upcoming release of the Yeti that said the 4x4 would be mated to a 7spd DSG, but they have since checked with Skoda and corrected it to 6spd DSG.

I think it will be a few more years before it makes it to Skoda....emoticon-0149-no.gif

I would like to be wrong.

I would also like to see the 2.0TSI with the 7 speed wet clutch DSG in a Yeti........208ps.....emoticon-0102-bigsmile.gif

Thanks for that info. My interest in the 7spd DSG was because of the switch to dry clutches and the potential for cheaper maintenance costs.

If the Tiguan 7spd DSG is just a modified wet clutch DSG then I guess that while it may be some improvement on the 6spd DSG, the difference won't be as dramatic as a switch to dry clutches.
