RS6 Reps - Weight

Featured Replies

Howdo boys and girls,

I'm after a little bit of info please.

Thinking about a set of Audi RS6 Replicas, the 5 spoke ones in 18" diameter.

I was just wondering how heavy these are compared to standard 17" spiders?

Cheers,

I have a set of them in shed, ill weight one tommorow and let you know how much it weights

Cheers for that, appreciate it. Dont suppose you fancy selling?

The weight will differ between manufacturers, some will be 'not too bad' others will be horrendous in both weight and quality.

They could do with a referb but ill get some pics, make me an offer and you can have them,

Ill weight one after work tonight

Just weighed one of the rs6 wheels and it weighs 12.2 kilo's

Ta,

Is that with tyres?

No thats just rim on its own, i took tyres off them with the intension of getting them referbed, but never did

As already mentioned, there are quiet a few manufacturers of these wheels using various different alloys which result in different weight. Some are also like cheese and will break / buckle at the slightest hint of a pothole, whereas others are stronger and better made. They may all look the same, but thats where the similarity ends. When going with a replica wheel try and get them from a reputable place, and preferably with reviews.

Decent quality tyres size 225 40 R18 to suit will be around 10.6kgs each....cheap ditch finder tyres maybe a lot more.

Add the above to the 12.2kgs wheel weight and it works out at 3.6kgs heavier (each wheel) than a std 17" spider with new 205 50 R17 Conti sport contact tyre fitted.

Remember though, 3.6kgs is prob going to be the minimum weight increase.....it may well end up being higher, it really all depends how much lead the the tyre fitter sticks on lol.

Bill.

Another thing to remember is this 3.6kg is unsprung weight, every kg of upsprung weight (wheels, tyres, wishbones etc) is equal to 4gk of sprung weight, so the extra 14kg may not sound alot but in real life that equates to over 57kg!, this has a direct effect on handling, acceleration mpg etc, this is just part of the reason why cars such as the greenline, and bluemotion etc use smaller wheels.

Race and rally cars will also either use smaller diameter wheels or use magnesium for the wheel which is much lighter than alloy - but much more expensive also.

I am not trying to put you off buying replica wheels, as to some people looks is all that matters, just don't expect the car to handle as well or be as quick and economical as it will be with the smaller OE wheels on.
