New stereo

Featured Replies

Hello all.

I am thinking of getting a new stereo to replace the standard casette player head unit, I have fitted plenty of stereos in my time but never to a car with a cd changer fitted, any suggestions for a good stereo that will still control the cd changer.

Cheers

When I looked into this a year or so ago, I discovered that the CD Autochanger is unique to the skoda head unit.

I ended up getting a Skoda Symphony single slot head unit which will still operate the CD Autochanger. These were an option on the Octy, and standard on the early superbs.

Best suggestion is to get an MP3 headunit & do away with the changer as you wont need it then.

If changing for a non skoda unit, you might need to swap the perm/ignition +12v feeds, and fit a power injector for the aerial as well.

I have a pioneer unit fitted (green/white lighting), which is MP3 based (cds, rather than an a USB stick/SD card), but it does the job for me.

Will the standard speakers be ok with a new headunit also will it sound better.

I think the HU is the weak point and the standard Octy speakers are not too bad (that said they are not brilliant either!) A previous owner of my car fitted some Alpine units and crossovers in the doors.

Cheers for the advice  I never use the radio so I could do without the power injector, ideally going to get one with ipod input and bluetooth, hopefully a new head unit will make it sound better, any song with a bit of bass sounds shocking

Got an alpine headunit in mine. Just an iPod controller. Green illumination sounds awsome. But the standard speakers got shown up by it so got new ones all round. You don't have to break the bank either £60-80 should get some ok components an replacements for the rears.

Sounds good, do the components bolt straight in or do you need a fitting kit
