Repair of old Sony VCR

Featured Replies

My 20 year old lightly used jog shuttle vcr now refuses to power-up, no power light, nothing. I haven't used it for about 4 years or so but want to now.

It is in very good condition and despite being repaired before, about 10 years ago, when the tape LEDs/readers failed, its in good condition and I'd like to retain it so that I can access a stock of pre-recorded tapes.

Previously, I'd also had a problem, after a power outage, with resetting the date and time from the hand controller. I was unable to resolve this at the time and suspected that the ROM chip hadn't been programmed for dates after a certain point - in this case 2001/2.

I just wondered whether these machines were deliberately engineered to go U/S after given period of time, making repair problematic. I'm currently considering taking it to a local repairers.

It's not worth fixing. Used but working Sony VCRs are cheap as chips.

I've got one in the loft I need to get rid of soon.
