From VRs to Monte Carlo?

Featured Replies

Well after a fairly drastic change in circumstances I'm contemplating parting with the VRs & considering a diesel Monte Carlo as it will be cheaper to run.

If your wanting economy why dont you get a greenline?

What else you have to remember as well is how much money will you lose on the VRS and how much extra will the new car cost you?

It may turn out to cost you a lot more than you save.

Also, why would you want to give up the VRS, it's fantastic! :D

for the money you will loose on the VRS and the extra you will pay for the MONTE you be better off keeping the VRS, saying that though the VRS needs to be driven because thats why you bought it,so your looking at 30-40 mpg if your careful the Monte will give you 45-55mpg if you want to drve like youve got a VRS but will not drive as good!,so extra 10-15 mpg maximum is it worth it? I would'nt have though so

Unless he gets a diesel monte then he's looking at 60-65mpg, alit mire than the vrs

Would def go for the 105 diesel for the MPG.

I'd have a long hard think, depending on mileage of your vrs best case you can just jump out of one and into another, but due to VAT offers it drives down the price of your p/x so you're more likely to have to pay something to make up the lost equity.

The economy difference will be noticeable, but the drive wont be as fun, obviously this is a fair trade off if you need to save money, but what I'd also look at is the depreciation hit you will take for a second time with the new Monte. If your VRS is older most of the depreciation will have already hit.

On the flip side though you'll be saving on insurance and tax.

It's a very fine equation to balance.

the monte will hold its value better because its simply a diesel

£20 tax a year

cheaper insurance

it does 78.5 MPG wich is amazing

diesels have double the engine life

and i think maybe it looks better the monte

the vrs has one big plus its faster .

As others have said you probably will lose quite a fair chuck from the sale of the VRS due to the depreciation, what you do have to remember though is that you will lose a massive amount of power for not a huge saving in the short term. Yes its a little cheaper on insurance for some but you need to check your quote with your current insurer because as crazy as it sounds insurance for me was cheaper with a VRS than it was with a Monty 1.2 TSI and you dont want to be stuck with your current insurer until the end of your 12 month agreement if the price is the same or higher.

As far as fuel costs go, unless you do long distance driving as apposed to lots of short trips (ie 10-15 minutes a time) its really not going to be any cheaper.
