Used Octy vRS estate, wise buy or not?

Featured Replies

Morning all. This is my first venture into the octy 2 forum so be gentle with me.

Im currently looking at buying a used Octavia vrRS TFSI estate with 93000 miles.

One owner and full service history, Xenons, maxidot, and three months RAC warranty for £6995.

What are your opinions, does it sound like a good deal?

Also how many miles are you getting out of a full tank and what's average tyre life like?

Many thanks in advance.

Rich.

How old is the car? Will help people decide if it's good value.

Otherwise, great choice! Fantastic blend of pace & practicality!

With my TSI I'm average a little over 30 mpg and usually about 350 per tank.

Tyre wear seems pretty good - I'm on Conti SC2 - but that will obviously depend on how you drive!

Im going to get 20k out of my front tyres,i average 35mpg (mixed driving)normally get 390miles to 420 miles to a tank.Mine is a petrol. 93k is nothing for these, make sure it has a full service history & has had a cambelt change.

Really depends on age of the car but as stated the mileage shouldn't be a problem. Just do your home work as you may find lower mileage examples for less.

It's 2006/06.

I'm not an expert and haven't researched but that feels on the high side.

make sure it has the 18" alloys, jumbo box, dual climate, rear electric windows and cruise, none of which were standard then. If it hasn't got them defo on the high side price wise.

It's 2006/06.

That does seem a bit expensive given its age, however if its a minter & you like it then go for it as long as its got all the toys. Maybe try to get it down to £6500?

what car £5000 private sale.

That one hasnt got xenons or maxidot. Cambelt on the one im looking at was done at 78K. looking at pictures of it, its got rear electric windows and climate control, so I'm presuming it will have jumbo box also?

I'm going to haggle with the dealer on price and als see what they will give me for mine.

Its this one I'm looking at http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/2006-SKODA-OCTAVIA-2-0T-FSI-vRS-/390298635338?pt=Automobiles_UK&hash=item5adf9c8c4a

It has got jumbo box you can see on the interior pictures. Just to be aware the 2007 MY changed to red brake calipers, came with the upgraded head unit to support MP3 discs, and an aux socket in the jumbo box.

You can see the Jumbo box in the picture  So it should have an MP3 connection inside the Jumbo Box.

The aux socket in the Jumbo box didn't come in till 2007 MY

Pardon my ignorance here, but is jumbo box just a big glove box that's air conditioned?

It's the big box behind the handbrake. It's airconditioned (has a pull thing to switch that on or off) and has an aux socket to plug in an mp3 player.

Useful for keeping drinks/baby food cold then. Always found the glove box in the fabia good for that.

So the general opinion is that it's a good buy despite the high mileage which isn't a problem?

Just to re-iterate Jonno's point, an 06 is most likely going to have the non-mp3 Stream hu, so won't have the aux-in despite the jumbo box being there.

(separate aux-in can be fitted at expense of cd changer, so it's not a prob, but that can wait)

Other than that though yes, for the right price, looks good.

I think that price is pretty fair given that it is from a dealer and not a private sale. It is spec-for-spec exactly the same as mine. I have had mine for 2 years and it has 60k on the clock. No problems to report.

If you do buy it make sure you contact your local dealer and arrange for the coil packs to be replaced under campaign 28F7. This car is about 6 months older than mine so it will almost certainly be affected. It's a recall so there is no charge and you get 4 nice new coil packs, so one less thing to go wrong.

Mine: 2006/56 plate, 18's, jumbo box, rear electric windows, 38k, 1 owner, fsh, no Xenons, maxidot or cruise but hey ho! £7400...........and that was in January 2009.

BigC/Jonno. I'll contact the dealer and ask if it has aux in or not but to be honest if it doesnt its not really a problem, I'll just have to get an FM transmitter thingy for my iphone or be old fashioned and listen to CD's.

Peanut. Thats useful to know. If I do end up buying it I'll contact my local dealer in Hull who have always been good when its come to servicing the Fabia so I'm sure they will look after me.

Pagey. Thats not a bad price for a 3 year old car, and it looks stunning too, I do like the black, but I think blue is a must.

Bearing in mind the higer mileage, does anybody think there would be any issues caused by a stage 1 remap, and what improvement in fuel economy would it bring?

Thanks for all your replies so far.

Aye, as I alluded to, it's not a problem, best bet is to pick up a Connects2 adapter, much better SQ than an fm transmitter:

I've a 07 TFSI Octy.

Careful driving get about 420 to a tank of super unleaded.

Long term average on the car right now is 34.8mpg, I can get 38 on my 60mph 15 mile commute.

It'll do 35mph on the motorway at 70.

In a hurry that'll be more like 28mpg.

I've the Aux socket in the jumbo box. Never used it.
