Dewi the Yeti is off to French pastures tomorrow, complete with the "tin snail shell". We catch the 2245 ferry from Portsmouth to Caen, and then drive down to Dol de Bretagne for a week then on to Derval, near Nantes for a further couple of days. Back sans caravan in June.

I hope you will all behave yourselves whilst we are away.

Bon Voyage.. :)

Enjoy!

I was looking at going camping in France this year but can't get a reasonable deal on the ferries. Cheapest i can find is Dover to Calais at £90 return but that then means i have to cross country to Normandy or Brittany....by which time I might as well have paid the extra for a different ferry route after paying for another tank of diesel.

Try Norfolk Line Dover - Dunkirk http://www.norfolkline.com/ferry/ (only 15 miles from Calais, and you can avoid completeley if you read a map and cut the corner off to Abbyville) Cheapest Fare mid July £42 return car + 4 - use them every year.

Cheaper diesel do Normandy easily in 4 hours, and you would still have paid less than Western channel crossings.

I hope you will all behave yourselves whilst we are away.

Enjoy the trip Graham. Take plenty of pics of the tin snail on the Yeti and if you can get the wife to take pictures of the tailback behind you! :giggle: [waiting for my slap!]

We Yeti folk will look after Graham's house in his absence, ah, now, where does he live?! Well that will be very many houses to patrol in Llanidloes then since it is not really possible to find it unless you have a very good memory of all his posts and nearby businesses! So I'm sure his house will be fine. As long as the van does not sleep on the front drive normally. That being gone is normally the biggest advertising billboard known to man that the house is ready for picking... But I know Graham does not have a drive so again he will be fine! I'm driving to Wales on Friday Graham so will swing past to check up that all is well! :giggle:

SLAP!!

Ouch! But deserved! :giggle:

I'm not on Facebook, Twitter, OR myspace.

Plus, our property has an alarm fitted as well as the fact our neighbour keeps an eye on the property for us, and also check it EVERY day during our absence.

Not to mention the Hi-def CCTV we have had installed. Valuable items are also marked with 'smart water' too'

No chance of us getting burgled.

Thanks for the advice - will give it a go....For that mileage though i may as well skip camping in France and for pretty much the same mileage end up on the 'Ring. B)

Yes. I (we) always use Dunquerque (Dunkirk is in Kent!) for the 'ring; but beware, he says from painful experience, do not speed in Belgium. :'(

Good Morning!

Arrived home at 0315 this morning, after getting back to England at 1015 and then taking an age throught Immigration at Poole. And why is the A350 so bloody aweful, north from Poole?

To the detractor concerned about my posting I was going away; well we do live in a very small town with one of the lowest crime rates in Wales, plus since we run a shop the house was occupied most of the time!

Excellent holiday except I've been "French parked" and now have a scratched rear bumper and one of the reverse sensors is inside the bumper. Shall have to see about removing it and sticking it back in!

Fuel consumption was just over 30 on the way to France, with the caravan, and just below 40 on the way back through Brittany and Normandie, probably because ! was at around 135kph most of the time! Caravan is nicely settled at our friends farm waiting for our next trip in August!

I shall post some photos later.

4 weeks ago when I came into Poole on the Barfleur ferry at 22.15PM, I was back at home within 30mins. I guess the port was busy, school holidays and such making getting out of the port very difficuly. One tip living locally to the north of poole is not follow the main road signs, but once out of the port do not turn right and over the bridge to get to the A350, go straight over the roundabout and through hamworthy, much more direct and quicker plus you end up on the same road. You also get away from everyone else trying to head for the signed route. Hopefully you did not get caught by the infamous holes bay safespeed camera that looks like a redlight camera but is infactt both speed and redlight.

Sorry to here about the Yeti, but I am sure its easily fixed. Damage like this is one reason why I avoid kerbside parking in France.
